Got clobbered last week in doubles, 0-4. Sore shoulder and poor volleys. Doing much better this week, 5-0 in singles and 3 days of 70 degrees in the forecast. Getting more wrist and less shoulder into my serve. It's an old mans thing. emoticon

The courts have cleared and we have played the last 3 days. 5 hours of doubles and my shoulder is talking to me. "Take a break."

Yesterday was a better day. Hit some nice volleys and concentrated on reaching forward to the ball. Also didn't walk in the AM. Think I might have been too tired that first day. We are trying it again today. Suppose to get up to 49. It's a heat wave. emoticon

I set foot on a tennis court this past Wednesday (first time since last February - ouch!).

It was in the high 40's, and there was a slight breeze. I cherished that breeze because I knew it would be cooling me once summer hits.

I did some stretches, stretched my arm, then filled my pockets with tennis balls.

Reached for a bright yellow, fuzzy tennis ball, threw it confidently into the air, then zoomed it over the net with my Wilson Hammer.

It went into the deuce court. In!!!! I then kept slamming serves to the deuce court, with a blazing sun at my back. It felt glorious to beat outside, to feel the breeze on my back, the racquet in my hand, and watch the ball's slamming across the court.

I spiraled tricky backhand crosscourts (where is a dog to retrieve those things when you need them? why doesn't Rhomba come up with a machine like that?), then tried my forehand. Completely dead. I hit 1/3 of the balls into the net. Error on the side of caution, but corrected it.

My tennis fever is back!

I hope to play tennis with my tennis partner tomorrow. I've cautioned her that she can't move me back and forth on the court, to have pity on me.

I doubt if she will.

Oh well.

Annie

Hey don't try to rub it in! It did get to 31 degrees here in Fargo today which was nice, but the courts are far from being ready to play on. It's tough to play in the humidity here too, though.

Just think, Dave. It won't be long before you'll be trying to play in the heat and humidity! I lived in Falls Church for years and I remember many a Sunday afternoon spent melting on the courts (but the good news is it was often followed by sharing a cold pitcher of beer).

Ridic

Insert clever comment here.

We have started a 3 day weather window here in Northern VA and my doubles group was out in force. My volley didn't show up though and groundies were late. Better luck tomorrow. emoticon
