I went from milk no sugar to black with maple syrup to black with just cinnamon. Gradually decreased the syrup... started with like 10g and was down to 4g before I finally just stopped.

My husband still likes a tablespoon of cream and a tablespoon of maple syrup in his but he's down from like 2-3 of each.

I put a teaspoon of sugar in my coffee.

I weaned myself down to a teaspoon. I used to have coffee in my sugar.

I have a couple teaspoons of sugar in my coffee.
Thank you for the feedback..maybe a good little compromise would be
to try and wean myself down to one teaspoon.I don't think one or two teaspoons should be too bad.

I used to use coffee in my sugar but I found that having it weaker meant I didn't feel the need to have add the sugar.

Most places make coffee far too strong for me and I always ask for 1/2 strength, but even then it is sometimes too strong. I get them to tip a bit out and add a little more milk, and then it is sweet.

My very short holiday in USA and Canada brought home to me how much stronger the coffee is over there.

I sometimes use a little honey or even molasses, especially if the coffee i'm brewing isn't particularly good quality. But for the most part I agree with what's been said already-- a teaspoon of regular sugar once adayisn't anything to worry about if the rest of your diet is healthy. Also,if you use good coffee, try reducing the sugar gradually to see if you can enjoy it without the sweetener.

I agree that a teaspoon of sugar isn’t all that bad. I don’t do dairy and I’d recently found Nutpods, a non dairy creamer. It comes in flavors, but I am enjoy the original in my morning coffee and it does add sweetness.

Just have a teaspoon or tablespoon of sugar and call it a day. No need to complicate or change things, when so little calories are involved.

How much sugar are you actually taking about here? A teaspoon is 15 calories and a Tablespoon is 45 calories. At the 1200 calorie minimum for nutrients that's under 4% of your daily intake, though it's not providing anything nutritionally, which would bump your minimum up to 1245 and the actual percentage from 3.75 to 3.6 of your diet. And that percentage is going to go down the more calories you eat. If that's really your one vice and you want to keep it, there are worse things in the world. That being said if you're adding four Tablespoons to your cup in the morning you would probably want to slowly work on cutting it back. I used to use 2 Tablespoons per cup, multiple cups per day, and over the course of a year I weaned myself to black with no pain. The other thing to look at is where else you could cut. You mention no juice and not having a sweet tooth, but check those assumptions just in case.

-google first. ask questions later.

Milk naturally has a little sugar in it (lactose) so that might work better for you than cream, which has no sugars.

If you brew the coffee a little lighter that reduces the bitterness, meaning you might need less sweetener.

I've found a bit of vanilla extract adds a sense of sweetness without any of the sweetener.

Hello all
I am looking for some ideas on how to sweeten coffee other than stevia or sweetener..I just don't like the taste of stevia and I have tried several different kinds and sweetener bothers my stomach.
I have one large cup of coffee in the morning and that's it and I don't eat any sweets through out the day because I have always preferred savoury foods..I don't have a sweet tooth and I don't drink juice or pop I'm a water girl.
So it's just my coffee in the morning that I am guilty of using sugar.
Should I not concern myself about it too much or find another way to sweeten my coffee? Just cream or black doesn't work for me.
Any good flavoured creamers out there?
