I would try the cauliflower crust recipe for a pizza craving, if you're seriously dieting. here's one recipe I've found that we like:

1 head of cauliflower
1/2 c. shredded mozzarella
1/4 c grated parmesan cheese
1/2 t. dried oregano
1/2 t. kosher salt
1/4 t. garlic powder
2 eggs, lightly beaten

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Break the cauliflower into florets and pulse in a food processor until fine. Steam in a steamer basket and drain well. (I like to put it on a towel to get all the moisture out.) Let cool.

In a bowl, combine the cauliflower with the mozzarella, Parmesan, oregano, salt, garlic powder and eggs. Transfer to the center of the baking sheet and spread into a circle, resembling a pizza crust. Bake for 20 minutes.

Add desired toppings and bake an additional 10 minutes.

I make english muffin pizzas, with store-bought pizza sauce, some italian-blend cheese, turkey pepperoni, and I bake them at 450 in a toaster oven for about 10 minutes. 1 muffin is a nice accompaniment to a salad for dinner for me.

Enjoy - if you don't have a small amount of what you are 'craving' you will end eating a lot of other things that do not satisfy you....so long as it is food.
Pizza is food - there are many, many items sold in the grocery that are not food - they are chemical concoctions.....but, Pizza is not one of them.

Just like every other food - eat what YOU need and don't overindulge.

If it's pizza crust you desire, you can make a low carb crust and put the toppings on this:
1 8 ou. pack of cream cheese (room temp)
2 eggs
1/4 t. ground black pepper
1 t. garlic powder
1/4 C. grated parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 350.
Spray a 9 X13 baking dish with PAM. With a mixer, mix all ingredients until combined. Spread into the baking dish and bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Allow crust to cool 10 mins. Top with your toppings and bake 8 to 10 minutes more until any cheese you have put on top is melted. Yum!

Usually my own homemade grilled Pizza. Although the other day I tasted a whole grain English muffin, topped it with pizza sauce sprinkled with oregano and garlic powder, added shredded turkey and a slice of fresh mozzarella and broiled it. It was super yummy and not too high in calories.

You can't lose weight by talking about it, you have to shut your mouth.

I am diabetic, so I eat low carb which means no crust, but this satisfies my pizza cravings. You can change this up any way that suits your taste.

Pizza Topping Casserole

1 lb. bulk sausage
1 small onion, chopped
1 small green pepper, chopped
3 1/2 oz. pepperoni, chopped
8 oz. mushrooms, sliced
olives, sliced
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
pizza sauce, as desired
shredded mozzarella cheese, as desired

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Brown the sausage with the onion and green pepper. Drain. Stir in the remaining ingredients, except the pizza sauce and cheese. Stir in the amount of pizza sauce desired. Place in an 8" or 9" square or round baking pan. Top with the cheese. Bake until the cheese is melted and browned the way you like it.

OMG...great post! Pizza is my favorite all time food and I rarely indulge. But when I do this is how I do it. I can't eat cheese so I order without cheese with sauce and tons of veggies. It tastes just like a giant bruchetta! It's delicious. When I eat pizza at my favorite pizza joint I eat 2 slices and I eat it with a fork and knife. That way I savor every bite and it lasts longer. Oh and one more very important "no calorie" ingredient! Crushed red pepper. Yum...

Your Chicken Pizziaola sounds interesting. I looked at the recipe and have made a note to try it (the next time I am out shopping, I will have the recipe along!)
To answer the original question about what to do when craving pizza, I use the time that a pizza (from my favorite take-out) is being delivered to make and eat a very satisfying heap of vegetables in a salad. Then when the pizza arrives, I allow myself to truly enjoy a measured amount. When I am finished with my meal, I log everything, and then I savor the satisfaction of being in that world of self-indulgence within self-control. (Oh, and one more thing; if there is left-over pizza, I have noticed that I will most likely slide off the edge of my Spark Points by finding some excuse or other to eat it all gone, so I only order a pizza that will allow for sufficient portions depending if I am eating alone or with family/friends...this rule is a very key issue for successful logging...at least for me!)

Chicken Pizziaola. Basically, it's flattened chicken breasts, covered in tomato sauce, toppings and cheese that's baked until the chicken is done. I actually just posted the recipe if anyone is interested: recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?

I take two white cheddar rice cakes, spread each with one tablespoon (ish) of pizza sauce (low carb if I can find it), then sprinkle with 1/4 cup of shredded low-fat mozzarella cheese (over both), then place 5 slices of turkey pepperoni on each. In the toaster oven at 350 degrees until the cheese is melted but before the rice cakes get browned. It's not pizza, but it tastes like pizza. And it's "pickupable" like pizza. It does the trick for me.

One or two slices with just mushrooms and ham or something light. A lot of times it's just the cheese I crave, so I have a cheese stick or make myself an egg with some grated cheese on it. Or have a glass of water, and do something for 20-30 minutes. That gives your mind time to think about something else and the craving will go away for the time being.
If you do eat the pizza, eat it slow and concentrate on the different flavours in it. You will fill up faster. I make my own pizza so I control what goes on it.

I just go ahead and have it but limit myself to one or two slices. If I don't have it I end up eating a bunch of other things and still wanting the pizza and then really feel deprived!

I too have made cauliflower pizza dough (and bread sticks). I love, love, love pizza. It is my favorite food! My problem is portion control with my favorite food. The cauliflower pizza dough allows me to have more for less calories and it is so easy to make. Now, is it the yummy, gooey New York style pizza I love that causes the grease to trail down my arm while I go through 5 napkins? No, but is is satisfying!

When I crave pizza I eat it, but in a different way than I did before. I'd be the first person to get the double meat and extra cheese, but now I choose one meat with veggies on a thinner crust and pass on the extra cheese. I also try to eat a side salad to make up for having another slice.

When craving pizza, eat pizza. Just don't overdo it and try to pass on the delivery additions of bread sticks or other pizza shop accoutrements.. Don't forget to have your veggies! A big salad is a great way to augment a pizza dinner.

I start with a tortilla and add pizza sauce or tomato sauce with pizza seasonings. I then add red and green bell peppers, onions and mushrooms... lots of mushrooms. Top with parmesan and either mozzarella or provolone cheese and bake. Cures me of a pizza craving every time.

I like eggplant slices or portobello mushrooms grilled, then stuffed with chunky tomatoes (spice like pizza sauce) and topped with part-skim cheese. Run it under the broiler so the cheese melts.
