For me, it means not doing the same thing every day. Even though I do cardio every day, some days I start w/treadmill and move to elliptical. Other days, I do spin. And then when I do machines I'll start with cybex machine....There are a lot of cardio machines in our gym and I use them all but not the same time or in the same order.
And I do barre some days, yoga others, and some days do my own strength & stretching.

From what I read, our bodies adapt if we do exactly the same thing every day, so I change it up.

Persistence is more important than perfection.

Don't assume your freedoms are assured.

I love country dancing, but I never could get a partner. I like Texas two step and country swing (not sure what they call that). I think I could do those if I could find a partner. I have tried line dancing, but I cannot keep up with the steps when they get put together, even in the beginner kind. I tried. I used to be able to do them. I did square dancing, line dancing, round dancing, but the same problem -- I couldn't get a partner. Even if I asked the guy I would get turned down.

I used to try to play tennis with my Dad, but couldn't hit the ball. Tried to find someone who would play some with me a few years ago, but no way (asked on NextDoor). The people in pickleball have no problem with me playing with them except for maybe 2 of them. Even one of them played with me one time. The other one a lot of people don't really want to play with, though nobody refuses to. I can't afford to do anything I have to pay for because I can't pay my bills as it is with low income (social security lower end). The pickleball and fitness classes are no charge with a recreation center membership or Silver Sneakers membership.

There are a lot of pickleball courts/people around here.
I prefer walking, swimming, and light weight lifting.
Played racquetball in the day several times a week and loved it. Tennis, not so much.

Thank you all. I'm kind of addicted to the pickleball, like the others I've been doing. Not too enthusiastic about others that I've tried, but might end up doing some others anyway.

Routines are great and you should stick to them, but switching up a little boredom comes in is great. I have a simple routine where I stick to the same upper or lower body, but the entire workout is changed. So you stick to what works (routine) and switch up what you do to keep your mind geared up.

Yes, either way is fine. Personally, I do different exercise daily.

Either approach is fine - switching to a different exercise every few weeks, or alternating different workouts across a week.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I know that you are supposed to mix up your exercises, but I am just wondering if that means you have to get things completely different after a certain amount of time or if you can consider doing several different things each week, but the same things over the weeks, as mixing it up. By that I mean like classic (stretching, cardio, light weights and resistance), pickleball (similar to playing tennis) twice a week, yoga (though it is a senior and might have to change), and essentrics (extreme stretching) over each week. I'm sure I need to add weights, but have a problem right now that will get worse with weight training.
