COTHO -- Way to go! Spark People is great! We all have something in common -- we want to be healthier.
If it means losing weight, exercising, watching what we eat, so be it!! Down deep we all know what will do the trick and solve our problems. All we have to do is DO IT....Smiles.

PS I hate exercise too. Never did like it...don't think I ever will. But I do whatever I can.

I am much happier since I made the decision to sign up on this site and work on my weight. It isnt the weight loss that has improved my mood, but the exercise and feeling like I'm part of big gang of people wrestling with the same problem.

Funny thing is, I hate exercise :)

PJBSAL -- you figured out how NOT to be lonely all by yourself -- try to hang out with the few people who stayed around for spring break. I know it's the pits having to be alone in an apartment away from home. You'll be okay.

MommasComfort -- feeling blessed, I liked that! Life is stressful sometimes and I think that's why many of us reach out for food to comfort our emotions. One day you will be ready to leave your nest and find a full time job, til then keep sparking and working on your self-image. It doesn't matter how long it takes, as long as you're happy with what you're doing and with yourself. Brighter days are ahead. Huggsssssss -- SmyleeRed

stay strong girl! we all have bad days, but you have to remember that being healthy will benefit you in the long run - mentally and physically. be happy that you have this opportunity to make changes and the strength to get through the tough days.

if i'm feeling down, in a funk or just plain sorry for myself, it helps me to think, "well, at least i'm not in iraq or afghanistan or (insert your own 'bad' place here)" - i know it's all relative, but life could be much worse. try to stay positive and remember all of the good things in life.

I'm happy but I am feeling lonely. It's spring break and I'm alone in my apartment. I had to stay here this break to get some homework done. I get really depressed if I don't have people around. I'm going to have to keep busy and try to hang out with the few pwoplw that stayed as well. :)

Lets just say I feel blessed and I recognize the good things in my life however, for the most part I am not happy. Financially we are stressed, I want to be working outside the home but I just can't make the amount of money we need when we would have to pay for childcare, it just doesn't add up, so I have a part time work from home job, which is great, but I need adult interaction (I have 3 kids) and I miss going to a full time job and being able to do things I used to do. Blah blah blah. I think that if I were out in the publics eye then I would be a little more motivated to get back into shape. Of course when you are a fat person you are not happy with what you have become. Anyway I am working on that and that is why I am here.

I'm sorry that you had tears in your eyes ZEKE11. It's easy to say don't do that, but I've been there before and I understand how you feel. Weight gain happens sometimes without any warning, that's all there is to it. I think it's best to just put it behind, keep going and start each day as though it was the very beginning. I know how you feel about wanting to see the numbers on that scale go DOWN and not UP...we all want that to happen.

One pound seems like a ton when you're trying as hard as you are to stay within your calorie range, and giving up lots of good things that you love to eat. I think you can allow yourself one of those tempting treats every now and then as long as you don't go overboard. What the heck, we aren't in prison now are we?

I don't know what kind of foods you're eating, and I'm not an expert by any means...You might want to chat about this dilemma with one of our Spark People experts. They would be more than happy to consult with you. I do hope you can find a happy balance to the weight loss thing and have less tears about it.
We want you to smile more...and be proud to be a member of SparkPeople. Why? Cuz you're one of us and we love you.

hey, don't cry. We have all been there. It's very easy for the body to go up and dwn a pound or two, even with just water weight. Eventually those pounds will go off and stay off. Are you eweighing yourself in the morning everytime. I know I can gain 2-3 lbs durung the day sometimes. You also must remember if you are exercising your body is building muscle. Weighs more than fat but looks MUCH better. The hardest thing about losing weight is being consistant with your good eating habits,no matter what the ups and downs are and you will see the results Are you keeping the diary on this sight. I started out keeping one on my own but found keeping the one on here more effective.

In fact, I am literally crying right now.

I keep trying and trying. I have a food diary. I am averaging less than 2000 calories a day.

I don't weigh in daily, but today I weighed and I have gone back up a whole pound. Why?

I started at 183, went down, went down again, was getting really excited about going below 180 since my last weigh in had been 180.4. Today I'm 181.6.

I am wearing pants that I can't zip up so have a big sweatshirt over them. they keep falling off. I don't have anything else to wear right now as my two elastic waisted pants are in the laundry.

my stomach is huge. I am so tired of it all. I managed to lose about 18 lbs on the south beach diet a couple years ago but I just can't follow that lifestyle.

i have cut out what I love best - baked goods. I used to allow myself a couple of cookes or a piece of coffee cake in the evening with my tea. but I cut all of that out. now if I snack in the evening, it is a cup of decaf coffee, no sugar and a flavored, sugarfree creamer. sometimes 2 graham crackers, but not often.

i was very proud of kicking that habit. to what end? now I don't have the treat I love and I am still gaining weight.

I really am fed up. I do all the motivators. I have been a LOT more active, doing mall walking, treadmilling, and a LOT of active housework - up and down stairs, etc.

Being sick can be very frustrating indeed. Not good to exercise when you aren't feeling well. It won't be long before you're back to normal ICEYGIRL.

I'm real happy today. Just being home all day with my husband (he has a bad cold) and serving him comfort food was very nice.

You are correct...the scales do usually reflect what we put into it. Fortunately my hard work seems to be paying off for the most part. It's funny how you can see a slight drop and it just makes your day! But overall I'm pretty happy with life in general. Things are going well. I wish it could be this way for everyone. A lot of being happy is like someone else said.....it's a state of mind. Here's 'happy wishes' to everyone!

MOM2SIX -- the scales ah yes, the scales. Those devils. Only good as long it tips downward eh?
If it goes up, well that means you have to do something different the next day. I weigh myself every morning. Sometimes I hate it too, but I always know which way it's going to go based on what I ate and how much I did or didn't exercise. Not a great big surprise after all. Better days are ahead!

I'm pretty happy today myself. Everything sort of went along smoothly and the snow didn't bother me as much as it usually does when I have to drive to work.
I followed my diet, didn't deviate from the planned menu, walked a whole bunch at work. A day well spent! Can't ask for much more than that.

I know you didn't ask for me to comment but I am:

EZNI_NK -- We're all in this together ya know. Sometimes the weight comes off easy,
sometimes it doesn't; stick with the program.

DOREEN1970 -- Good to hear that all is well with you both personally and with SP.....aww, but another job would help a little more eh? Start searching for one if it would help.

ANGEL97496 -- Good to hear such positive stuff, the Lord is in all our lives I hope.

LADYFIREDRAGON -- Never give up. You've done a great job so far, keep going! I think we all experience lack of motivation once in a while. Read something that will give you a boost.
Here's a HUGGGG.

LULU-BELL -- Hope we can cheer you up a bit....You need a HUGGGGG too. Tomorrow will hold the answer. Have a good night's sleep, look in the mirror tomorrow and tell yourself "I Love YOU just the way you are!" Did that help any?

DJ-KRIS10 -- WTG. What an inspiration! Sleep does wonders doesn't it?

DJ-KRIS10 -- Glad you came here to spread that "positiveness" around. Some of us need a little more than others.

AAINA_F -- Good luck on reaching your goal! Awesome!

SHMILYUK -- Smiles are great aren't they? If you put on a smile, you get lots of them back. Try it and see. Exercise and good nutrition are positive factors also. WTG.

RMOMROX -- WTG

BISCOCHITA91503 -- Hope this thread can shed some happiness into your life.

Yes, I am happy right now. I took a long nap today and feel rested for the first time in weeks! And I'm going back to bed in a minute... It's wonderful! (also, hard to snack when you're asleep so low calories for today!)

No... depressed and disappointed in myself.

Some days it's peanuts and some days it's shells. Either way you make the best of it.

I'm happy that I went from 350 to like 322...but I'm sad now because I lost my motivation to work out :(

You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is. ~Ellen Degeneres

I'm happy today. No special reason. Maybe it's because it's my day off and I could do whatever I want.

I just wanted to share this with everyone here because we all need to be happy with ourselves and sometimes it's pretty hard to do.

First of all, it would be nice to know how to be
happy...right?

Happiness has more to do with your attitude about the things that happen to you than it does with what actually happens. The happiest people are those who can take lemons and make lemonade.
- Stress Management Guide Elizabeth Scott from about.com

This is what got me to ask this question in SparkPeople. I figured it would be a good thing for
some people to discuss openly.

Are You Happy?
On a Monday morning, my answer to the question "Are you happy?" is generally "huh?" But that has more to do with needing coffee than anything else. (On the other hand, if we had a quiz called "Are You Groggy?" I'd pass with flying colors.)
- Stress Management Guide Elizabeth Scott

from Jen Hubley
I have a friend who greets people he hasn't seen for awhile by asking, "How are things? Are you happy?" It never fails to throw people off. Most of us don't stop to consider whether or not we're happy on a day-to-day basis.
