What is the base for the anxiety re leaving the house?
I will share with you what my Psychologist prescribed to me. She said I was to avoid avoidance. In other words, by giving in to whatever is causing the anxiety only feeds that anxiety and causes it to gradually get worse over time.
She told me to go to a Cafe weekly - preferably the same one and if possible at around the same time of day. The rationale behind that was that I would become a regular and as such the staff would interact with me on a more familiar basis rather than the generic 'hello' or 'how's your day' type of thing. As a result I went weekly when I got my groceries (couldn't afford more often) and in time I began to notice that not only were the staff talking to me as tho' I was a friend, but I started to notice that there were others who were regulars also. In time I was able to start basic communication with them, and learned to relax.
The same would apply to going to the gym. The more you go you become more familiar the surroundings and people, so generally less anxiety surfaces.
I haven't been last week and i have already started making excuses for this week as well. I get bored with the equipment and people look at you but don't talk. I know you can change it but i need a challenge i think, any suggestions??
