Love these pictures of home! We may need to look up this place on our trip through Nebraska this spring. The last time we took the back roads through we had the garmin on and it didn't like where we were going-kept telling us to turn (into a barbed wire fence, a cornfield, a driveway, etc) and then finally stopped talking. LOL Looks like we enjoy the same type of trips, too.

Rita, this is the comment I was going to put on your blog of the windmills in Nebraska. I couldn't figure out what profile I was supposed to select to comment right on the blog.

I just checked out that blog, too. The cherry Bing is called a cherry mash in other places and is where one of my Christmas treats originated. I still have a couple biggies of cherry mash in the freezer. We may need to add Sioux City to our list of stops on our spring trip. Any and all suggestions are welcome since we will be driving a very large circle around the country missing the coasts and most anything north on Lincoln.

Kerry and Pam, I need a hair cut too! It must be the winter hair growth to keep us warm! lol

Pam thx for taking the time to read my blog. I always hope it's entertaining for my readers. I have many drafts to write up but I have to be inspired. Suddenly it just hits and I roll them out. I agree that us 1950 girls are so much alike that it's really fun. Your recap of why we are so alike is right on. We are all in the same boat so to speak!

Mary, I'm thinking of you! I hope the kids are being good and that you're feeling well. Blessings on you!

It's 36 degree here now and finally promise of sunshine all week long. High today is supposed to be 41 but in the low to mid 50's the rest of the week. I can be happy with that.

I got my biking done. I keep adding on time so today was 35 min. I used to daily do an hour to an hour and a half. That's where I'm aiming to go (if I can keep myself entertained and not get bored). I have it all set with TV remote, home and cell phone, water bottle, magazines and a book. Anything to keep me going.

I'm heading to the grocery store this afternoon. DS and his wife brought home a discounted red velvet cake with peppermint frosting that is to die for....I try to stay out of it but have a piece (or two) each day. This afternoon I had the crazy idea to lift the box up to see if there was nutritional info on the bottom. I guess it's good and bad I did that. Calories are a shocking 400 per slice. Last night they brought in white chocolate Pringles. 15 pringles for 150 calories. Yikes! My sweet tooth is so tempted around here. I hope I can bring in some good but healthy things from the store!

Wow Rita, great stuff, being mentioned in the newsletter. Of course that made me go to your blog, which I spent time reading, all the time ignoring my work in the office...LOL! It looks like you get great satisfaction doing what you do. Good for you. And – you’re not the only one who gets their days mixed up. I’ve had some very embarrassing moments thinking it was a different day than it was.

Kerry, I desperately a need a haircut too, but I just haven’t gotten around to making an appointment. Silly of me, really, because the lady who cuts my hair only lives 1 block away from me. Duh.

Mary, I hope you feel better soon. The reason there are so many “bugs” around is because the weather is warm, cold, warm, cold and that’s the kind of weather that spawns lots of bouts of cold and flu. Hasn’t the weather this year just been the strangest?

I believe the reason we all get along so well is because we were all born in 1950! Let’s face it girls, we were probably all raised by parents who had the same values, and we’ve all been married and had kids and most of us are grandmothers (that wasn’t my plan in life, but hey, I had no control over that except to not have kids myself). LOL!

Anyway, I had better get going and do more work. This running your own business sucks the big one. I’m too old for this, but I’ll probably be shipping for my husband until they cart me out feet first....sigh

God bless,

Congratulations, Rita, on that great mention!

Mary, hope your day is going well and you feel better soon. It is 51 here with 100% humidity although I don't see any rain and I'm not sure I've ever seen them say it's 100% even when it is. lol It is high enough to make it feel extremely cold, though. Normally our winters here in NE Florida come in 3 day spurts and then we get some warm weather but not this year.

I'll see my grandkids this evening so maybe I will get to hear about the competition. I can't imagine being able to think at all when up on stage basically alone even if there are 33 other people sitting behind me. I'm also kind of hoping when we take the kids home DD will offer haircuts. We both need them. Guess it's time for my shake if we are going to church dinner in a few hours.

Good Morning Ladies!

Mary I hope you'll feel better as the day goes on. Having a good sleep helps you fight the weather as well as the sniffles. Have you ever blessed your classroom with Holy Water? I've seen ladies use spray bottles. My GD calls it "happy water".

I slept wonderfully and have been trying to wake up for awhile now. My eyes get blurry and I move slowly. I used to bounce out of bed and be ready for the day. Ah my youthful days!

Yesterday I got a newsletter in my in-box. It was the volunteer newsletter for the police dept where I volunteer. I was the spotlighted volunteer with a full page article and lots of pictures. So much for staying anonymous. They mentioned my blog so that explains the extra hits on it recently: roamingrita.blogspot.com Guess I'll get my exercise done. Yay I'm home so I can do that. It's so important for my health I need to do it everyday! TTYL

Good morning....I slept well thanks to Walgreen's Benadryl but don't feel good. I hope today will be an easy day but the weatherman says we won't get above 40. More inside recess and lunch!! Everything was wet yesterday even though it stopped raining. I am SO tired of this!

Rita, I will think of you every time I hear or read discernment! What a hoot that you were just thrust into the competition! Good for you being a good student and a trooper!

Kerry, I thnk it would be hard to 'throw' a contest if you really did know the words, regardless of whether or not you really wanted to be there. It sounds like she had 2nd thoughts and really wanted to be a winner. Maybe next time!

I need to have breakfast and make my lunch...

Hello Ladies!

I missed stopping in here yesterday. Last night I got started on deleting over 2300 inbox msgs on my computer. Instead of hitting "select all" and then "delete" the easy way, I did it in groups to make sure I didn't delete something of importance. Once I got started I had to keep going on it. This minute I have only 6 msg in my inbox and I'm thrilled. Now to keep it empty!

I goofed up today thinking it was Monday. At lunch my DH commented he had his class to teach tonight and another mtg tomorrow. I said "it's only Monday" and as he thought about it he agreed! So in the afternoon I took off to play at a garden center and was on my way to a thrift store when my SIL called. He was at my house dropping off my 3 yr old GD and on his way to work. On Tues I then leave shortly after GD comes to get in a car pool line to pick up her 6 yr old sister. I was so convinced it was Monday I thought my SIL was the mixed up one! He said I was so convincing he almost believed it himself. Once I realized it WAS Tues. I quickly got home and called DH so we could swap cars. DH has the one with the children's car seats. I think I went wrong enjoying no ice or snow on the roads as promised. I could get out of the house! It's started snowing again now so I might stay home tomorrow.

Kerry reading about your GD in the spelling bee sure brought back memories. In high school I competed in Business Competition. Machine Transcription was my first place win and advance typing got me 3rd place. The surprise of the day was at the last minute I was "pushed" into the spelling bee to "represent our school" since the person that was to do it didn't show up. I told the nuns I couldn't spell but they said it was okay just go. Luckily we had pencil and paper so I listened carefully to the person in front of me and if they were wrong I readjusted the letters to spell the word. We went around and around until only 3 of us were left. The person ahead of me spelled "dissernment" and was wrong. So, I spelled it "diccernment" and was wrong. Third person got it right and I got 2nd place medal. To this day I remember Discernment!! My heart goes out to your GD as it sounds like she was in the spotlight and its not easy being in a competition like that.

Kerry, Mary and Nyla congrats on all that exercise. I hope to get back at it tomorrow. It's encouraging to hear you are doing it! It prompts me to do mine.

Mary I hope you can shake off those aches and sniffles. It's no fun for sure.

Pam the 5th season of Downton Abbey is on Sunday nights now. I've seen the first 2 sessions of it and wish I had the DVD so I could do a marathon and watch the whole season in one sitting...lol

Hopefully tomorrow I'll get back on track again. I ate both lunch and dinner out today and even though I was aware I'm afraid the calories probably added up. I didn't even try to figure them all out. I love going out but it sure is challenging. I'm getting better though!

Stay warm and dry!

I belong to LA Fitness. Mary, you remember right. She wanted to mess up on purpose to get off the stage but obviously couldn't make herself misspell words she knew. I don't think she had ever heard prescient before. Sarah said she was REALLY upset.

Yes, Kerry...it was wonderful that she participated and especially when she went into it on the first go-round not being terribly excited, I think I remember! Those kinds of things are hard to take when you're out at the beginning. I'm glad she didn't have to stay around. Maybe next time she will take it in stride.

Nyla, good for you on the treadmill! Despite the 2 shirts/no pants, I went upstairs and finished half of the dvd that I quit when I fell last week and another half of walk and weights..so I did a 30 minute routine divided into 2 segments. A little of both! A good start to the week. I hope I will take a fully loaded bag tomorrow and get a chance to go. I have a church meeting tomorrow night but I can get a workout in beforehand. Yes, I didn't want to do too much. I had a cough drop and lots of water and will take a Benadryl in a bit.

Off to bed to watch Chicago Fire...I am a tv junkie!! OH! And I did a...drum roll; 10 SECOND plank, lol!!

Hi all,

I "THOUGHT" I had responded earlier, but it didn't go through--or I messed up. At any rate, here I am!!

Kerry, you make me DIZZY with all that you do!! Your exercise activities are inspiring!! I have forgotten-do you belong to a "Y" or a private gym? Beyond all the exercise, you do SO much with your church and family!! Good for you!! Sorry your GD didn't do as well as she wanted in the spelling bee, but good for her to give it her best!

Mary, too bad about your gym bag--but tomorrow is another day!! With your scratchy throat, etc, it is probably for the best that you didn't push too hard today! Your aching joints might be related to the cold or whatever it is you have right now!

I walked on the treadmill again today!!! YAY for me!! That is 3 days in a row, which is a REAL improvement!! We will see how tomorrow goes!!

Talk to you all tomorrow!!

Well the poor kid was out right away not knowing the word prescient. I had to look it up myself. She was upset and both her teacher and principal told her parents to take her home rather than force her to watch the entire thing. They went to DQ for a treat. Lol Mary, I am typing this on my phone and glance at the laptop to see you have commented there. I am very proud of her for doing it because she really was scared about getting up on stage.

Another 2 days and I’m so far behind in reading and responding. I had my bag packed for the gym again today and found that I had 2 shirts and no pants!! At least I discovered that before I actually took anything off, lol! So I came home and have been on the computer ever since. Yesterday Sarah, my partner, and I worked an hour and a half extra on our Power Point presentation (actually Keynote for MAC) for Friday’s Parent Preview. I gave up on working out and collapsed on the couch. Again today, too. I have a scratchy throat and runny nose and my sinuses are killing me. I haven’t been sick in a long time and this isn’t bad, but sure isn’t fun.

Nyla, we still haven’t gotten good weather! I long for sunshine. I saw more pictures of Blitz on FB..what a handsome dog and a winner again! Good for you! I watched a little bit of the Golden Globes, then opted for Sister Wives, lol. I have friends in low places…I love TLC!! But I eventually drew the line at Honey Boo Boo! I haven’t seen Downton Abbey but I’ve heard great things about it. One of my sisters loves it. I always have the tv on. I hate the silence when it’s not on!

Rita, with all the great things you do, the ‘retirement benefits’ should come with a halo and stars in your crown! I love to hear of all your wonderful activities. I can’t wait to do some good volunteer things once I retire. Wow---you won a cruise with weight loss? That’s so fabulous! I have regained all but 5 pounds of what I lost last year on WW. I need a complete reboot of my goals!

My hands hurt now ,too, Kerry. I seem to ache in all my joints right now. I’ve never been checked for arthritis but I figure that’s what I have. I guess I need to have it looked into but I sure don’t want to take meds. You were so lucky to have the police around with the money transfer. I worry about that for you…safety always! Ha ha…child and teacher abuse is right when we are kept inside! I had another sick child today whose parents never responded to any of the phone calls so they called to tell me he couldn’t stay in the office. I wasn’t even in my room during my planning time because I was getting ready for my new child who comes on Thursday after I lose one tomorrow. Things are so hectic at school right now and I’m very frustrated! I hope your GD does well in the spelling bee. Let us know!

Pam, a plank a day would be my style!! I am an exercise wimp as well as a weather wimp. I will try a plank tonight. I MUST do something. I guess I didn’t realize you were a nurse in your other life! Another coincidence with others here!

Okay..I need to go fix dinner and just crash!

Good evening. I forgot tonight was the county spelling bee. I had the 15th in my head. GD is #32 and says she will be out soon because she hasn't studied. I think she will probably do what she did in the school bee and forget to say the word before and after spelling it. They didn't require it at school so that could get her. I got up just before 8 after watching most of the football game so I only had 40 minutes to get dressed, get my bag packed, eat and try to read the paper before heading to the gym. I left the house about 15 minutes later than usual and was happy to find our aqua instructor directly in front of me as I drove the last half mile. lol After the 60 minutes in the pool, I did 10 on the treadmill and 5 on the stepper before doing 30 minutes of a slow motion zumba session. The Silver Sneaker instructor wasn't there and this gal I don't know came in to teach. She was really nice to the two of us who did show up and after 30 minutes when I needed to leave she did a short cool down and then went on to do more with the other lady. I then stopped at the store for some chicken tenders, home to change, and Larry and I went to church for our XYZ luncheon and planning session. We've got lots of things planned-trips to the museum, community theater, movie, etc. We will also be sponsoring some of the Wednesday night dinners. Tonight may have to be an early night for me.

Pam,

Season 5 of Downton Abbey has just started. I loved the 1st three seasons, then fell behind. It is an excellent series and I think you will enjoy it. I need to do some "binge watching" to catch up!

A great way to spend some cold winter evenings!!

I'd give you my thoughts on the show Nyla, but I don't have a telly provider, so I couldn't watch it. When I was nursing, I did two stints. I worked for a while in neurology, but most of my time was spent on the cardiac ward. That was back in the 70s though. Cardiac care has changed a lot since then, and so has neurology.

We all went out for supper tonight and we stopped into a store and I bought the 1st season of Downton Abbey. Now all I need is some time to sit down and watch it. How many seasons have their been of that show anyway? I needed a new show to watch, and I am REAAAALLY picky about what I watch. I've listened to so many posts about it here and on facebook and haven't heard anything bad yet about Downton Abbey, so I decided to try it. Besides, anything with Dame Maggie Smith in it has to be great, right? LOL!

God bless,

Pam from SW Ontario

Good Morning Gals and Happy Monday!!

Rita, you surely did have a full day yesterday! Glad it was all good things! Amazing that you won a Caribbean cruise for weight loss!! That is a real accomplishment!

Kerry, DH and I had very different TV and telephone preferences!! He only wanted the TV on when he was sitting down and concentrating on watching a specific program. I prefer having the TV on for background "white noise" whether I am actually watching it or not. Our compromise was that I had it on all day while he was at work and when he got home I would turn it off--and talk on the phone!! He wasn't a phone kind of guy either and frequently would tease me about saying the same thing over and over!! I told him he needed to be VERY grateful for my sister because if it were not for her, HE would have to listen to me!! I am sure you and DH will work out a system. This is all new to you right now and it will take a while to establish a new "normal" (whatever that is!) It is a big adjustment for both of you. However, your thoughts about going to the gym with headphones might be a good solution!! (I would sometimes listen to audio books with headphones)

Today I need to spend some time in the office (home office) organizing some paperwork and scanning some receipts. Also need to get some laundry done. And I discovered yesterday that I have some "tech" issues to resolve with a tv receiver. I wanted to watch a movie via Netflix on a set that is not internet compatible (set is probably 15 years old but good enough for what little use it gets). Anyway, I was trying to watch Netflix using my Wii console and had to upgrade the software. It THEN required signing in via the Amazon account--which is all well and good, but I need to have the computer with me in order to do that. So I gave up yesterday and will do it today! Technology is great--when it works!!!

Anyone watch the Golden Globes last night? What did you think of the fashions? There were some I thought were gorgeous and others not so much. I think Amal Clooney is stunning.

Later Ladies!!

What a great way to start the week. I come out to the quiet family room with my shake and newspaper which was nice then my husband gets up, fixes himself some breakfast and takes it into the bedroom to eat. Not cool but he says he was being nice about not changing the channel I was watching. Then my daughter gets up and starts talking about her date last night-I get to hear about the movie and dinner while actually trying to listen to the tv and then my husband comes out of the bedroom and gets a phone call from work about how to get some work done on different machinery. AAARRRGGGHHHH.... I may have to learn to go to the gym with some headphones so I can watch and hear the shows I want. Great-his phone is going off again.

The three hour prayer event sounds nice and simpler than I what I do on Sunday afternoon although I know it can be both joyful and hard. I have done something like that but we did it 24 hours and I had a shift that ended at midnight or 1 am.

I have never been a teacher-altho I did teach Sunday School one year for kindergarten and I've never been a nurse but I was a medical transcriptionist for a year just before we got married.

I agree that every child needs a recess at school-they need the fresh air and they need to gt out where they can yell and shout-get rid of those frustrations from having to be quiet all day-move their bodies, etc. Not having recess is both child and teacher abuse. emoticon

Mary, I hope you were able to hunker down today and that you're feeling totally better. I can understand the frustration of looking at a week with the kids indoors most of the time. Our property backs up to a greenbelt with an elementary school on the other side. I hear the kid's energy being worn off at recess. It's a joyful noise and a much needed respite for all! Hopefully the weather will cooperate so you get some blessed breaks! Your on-line group sounds like mine back then. I am still in touch with a bunch of people I met from there. I've met some of them too. I even won a Caribbean cruise with my weight loss. There were 5 of us winners and we all went with our husbands with the weight loss program employees. I would love, love, to be at that weight again. It was awesome. Oh, and I know Half-Price Books! It's a dangerous place for my husband and I. We sure can find books to buy.

Pam, freezing snow is not fun! We get it sometimes here in the Denver area and it's not something we want to hang around. Lucky for us it doesn't last too long usually. When we lived in Steamboat Springs we had big snow that lasted all winter. It covered my kitchen and bathroom windows the entire time. My girlfriend called it "the wall of white." I remember one winter and it snowed 21 days in a row. Nice for a ski town but mud season was always a welcome relief.

Nyla, yay for you in getting that exercise in! Great accomplishment. Just doing it is huge! I am so proud of you! That is wild that so many of us are in the medical field. We are a bunch of kindred spirits for sure! The summer I graduated I got married 3 months later and moved to Los Angeles. I had to have a state license there and I was joyful to pass that test on the first take. So I had my first and only med tech job at a big Medical Center. DH was in grad school so when he graduated we moved to Baton Rouge. In Louisiana I didn't need a state license and the pay was so lousy it wasn't worth my time since we had a toddler by then. So I became a full time homemaker. I'm like you in not ever being able to go back. Everything has completely changed. It's okay though. I am not so sure I want to deal with blood and body fluids anymore with all the junk in them now. I rotated departments but mostly did hematology or microbiology. I was really good at drawing blood. Patients requested me and wanted me even on my days off. Being an OR nurse is awesome. I'm sure that was most interesting. Those Broncos blew it today, huh! I didn't watch the game as I had another meeting but I know people who braved the cold and went to the game. I'm glad I wasn't even tempted.

Kerry, Glad you didn't have a visit by the cops. The things that kids can say! This reminds me of a police t-shirt I have it says "all is fun and games until the cops show up." It doesn't seem right that Florida temps are so cool. I always envision sunshine, orange trees and sand when I think of Florida. I had a full church kind of day too. DH did 2 baptisms before Mass so I went an hour and a half early to ride with him. After Mass we quickly ate lunch with our DS and DIL and 2 grandkids. Then I went across town for a 3+ hr prayer session. I've been doing prayer ministry for 30+ years. It's all still in the "healing" profession, no pay but maybe the "retirement" benefits will be good! lol

Time for bed! I look forward to a good night's sleep! Sweet dreams to each of you!

I was also hoping for a Broncos win but they didn't play like they wanted it. The guy who dropped all the passes should give the team back is pay for that game.

Good evening Ladies!

I have had a great day and I hope you all have as well. Lots of fun things happened today for me. I actually walked on the treadmill, (as I already mentioned), my "puppy dog" won BIG in Mississippi this afternoon, and the Packers won!! Great day!! Unfortunately I was hoping Denver would win, but maybe next year!! All in all I am a happy camper!!

Kerry, you had a very busy day!! And it sounds like a busy week you have coming up as well! How nice that Larry brought you soup and a sandwich!! You are so right about driving in Texas in winter weather! No one here is familiar with that kind of conditions and it is really a nightmare!

Pam, I didn't realize you were also a nurse! What was your specialty when you were working? I worked in the OR for 20 something years…. LOVED it and felt very fortunate to have a job that I loved and could count on. Yes, I did a plank challenge last year. I need to start it again as I have been such a slug these past few months. It is definitely easier to do planks on a rug or on carpeting!

Settling in to watch the Golden Globes. I like watching the fashions more than I actually care about the awards. My sister-in-law is a real acting aficionado so watches all the awards shows carefully. She knows so much about the actors and actresses that it is fun to hear her interpretation of it all! I am so out of touch with all of the current people it is really funny!!

Later all!

Nyla, I agree that our backgrounds are somewhat similar. I, too, used to be a nurse many moons ago, but haven't worked at it for so many years that I wouldn't dare try to go back to it either. (not that I could now at my "advanced" age. LOL! Did I remember you talking a long time ago about doing planks? With the arthritis in my hands and knees, I figured just getting down onto the floor would be a major effort, but I managed that. I simply could NOT get my tummy off the floor! Leah laughed and suggested that I don't do it on a hardwood floor and that I bring down my padded exercise mat to do it. Well, by the time I figured out how to get OFF the derned floor, I decided it wasn't worth the effort. Maybe another day. LOLOL!!!

God bless,

Pam from SW Ontario

Good evening. I have had another church day-I put out some of the Sunday School envelopes not knowing if the regular secretary was back from her surgery so I enjoyed visiting with everyone who has class in that education building rather than the rooms in the main hall. Charlotte did show up so I sat in class for a bit but got a tickle in my throat so left and checked on the youth group. That would be my 2 grandkids + 1. We then all went to church-the kids didn't want to but one of our other teens had come in and her mom told them they were ALL going to church so we chased them out and locked the room. We had several visitors with one behind me with two grandkids. After the children's moments the girl went out with the other kids for a fun lesson while the little boy came back and told his grandma he wanted to sit with his mother. She said mom wasn't there and he said she was. She asked where and he pointed to the other side and she said "I've never known your mother to step into a church". Well, okay, guess her kids being taken brought her in the door! That doesn't work for my kids. So much for morning at church. We had lunch at McD's then back to the house so the kids could clean up before heading home and of course they had to play in the backyard a while, too, as well as go for a walk. Then Larry took them all home while I went back to church to count money. Elaine is out with her new hip so it was just Charles and me and I think we did it in record time. We went to walk out the door and there were some cars sitting there with people standing outside talking-obviously a traffic accident and our driveway is the easiest to pull in to. I wrapped the money bag up in some other papers and was happy to see 2 police cars sitting at the end of the driveway so we got the money safely to the bank. I then took a nap and Larry woke me up with a bowl of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I'm feeling ready for another nap. Tomorrow night is church finance meeting, Tuesday morning is our XYZ group to plan our year's activities, Wednesday is dinner at church. We used to use tiny individual cups for communion but now we use do the take a piece of bread and dip it in the cup method. I prefer the former method because who knows how many people let their fingers dip into the juice.

Mary, I'm like you-after living in Florida for 30 years now this 40-50 degrees with clouds and misting or rain just freezes me up. The joints in my hands hurt like crazy and my newest hip is still bothering me-probably also some of the weather issues. On our honeymoon eons ago we drove through Dallas in snow and that is something you really want to stay away from!! Scary watching cars sliding all over the place. We just did our best to get out of there and on towards Big Bend National Park.

Okay, I've blathered on long enough. I'll quit boring you now and work on drinking some more water.

Hi again!

Kerry, I agree--it is not supposed to be this cold in the south!!! I missed the 2nd half of the Packer's game also. Even tho I live in Tx, I was rooting for the Pack and so happy that they won. I have dear relatives that are REALLY Packer fans and so I cheer for them on their behalf! Now rooting for Denver... Parents today (including SOME, but not all of my own kids) have that mentality that the kids should be the guide. I sure don't agree, but keep my mouth shut as I am not the parent (nor do I want to be). They will learn that isn't effective and I can only hope that the results won't be devastating. LOL at the stories your kids told!! MY DD told her 1st grade teacher that we had a new baby and that we kept it in the closet!!! The teacher looked at me quite strangely when I attended a parent teacher conference!!!

Mary, I don't remember giving my kids candy or an incentive for those life milestones either. OTOH, I do remember using a "spanking spoon", which would probably get me reported to CPS in today's world. I do, however, admit that I no longer support spanking or hitting. I decided that if it isn't OK to hit an adult, it isn't OK to hit a child either. I understand that everyone has an opinion on that--this is just mine. You were so smart to be cautious at Mass this morning. I am hoping for a day of sunshine soon!!

Later ladies!!

Iknow, Pam....I know! I am a Weather Wimp and proud of it, lol. On those every 10 years it 'snows' type of years, it's a dusting and Houston comes to a halt! Sorry to whine about rain...you have so much more to contend with!

Nyla and Kerry, my kids were potty trained around 2 and we had few problems. I never gave candy or 'incentives' either---I guess that's why I don't like to bribe my students with 'rewards' for doing what they are supposed to be doing! I need to find out how the potty training is going.

And Nyla, great going on the treadmill! I will try a dvd today...no pool in this weather!

It's still raining and very cold and I am cold, to. I will put on a sweatshirt in a bit while I do my school work. I have vacuumed and changed my sheets, turned the new mattress from one side to the other as suggested, and put away the folded laundry. I did NOT shake hands at Mass and the man behind me thanked me for that, lol. The priest sounded stopped up and told us he was not handing out communion and for anyone who had a cold please not to drink from the cup. I never do anymore after being behind an elderly man one Sunday who started coughing right in front of me!!

I need to get busy again but wanted to say hello!

Good afternoon or should I say cold afternoon? This is Florida-it is not supposed to be in the 40's with wind and clouds. I thought the sun was going to break out while we were at church but that didn't happen. Wish I could get my hands warmed up. It's actually about time to get back to church and get the money counted. Charles' football game was yesterday so we are going to do this earlier than usual. Hopefully we will get done earlier than normal! I hate missing the Packers play but I don't want to try counting tomorrow when all the school kids and teachers plus all of OUR employees are there working. We had a good number at church-lots of visitors which is nice.

Pam, sorry you're so cold and snowy up there. I do remember a couple good snow storms especially the night 27 inches dropped and my brother had a date so he spent most of the day trying to hand shovel a 3 block long driveway. He's still crazy but he's not the one who hurt his shoulder skiing. lol

I remember when we started having kids-Dawn was born in '73 and I kept hearing that we should wait until kids told US when they wanted to learn. Yeah, right. I keep seeing people complaining they can't put their kids in day care or preschool because they aren't potty trained but they don't like my response to the problem. When my girls turned one they got training pants and a potty chair which sat by the toilet and every time I went they went with me and learned to sit there. They were trained in no time at all and I didn't give them candy to go either but that's a big one now, too. Being overweight all the time I just didn't think that was a good thing to start. Our other girls were born in '75 and '81 with a couple miscarriages thrown in. Trish always told people the boys died but I was never told. Of course, she also told our neighbors that she had a brother but dad killed him because he cried all the time. I was always amazed the cops never showed up to question us. emoticon

Good morning all,

Hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday. I woke up and AT LAST followed through on my resolve to get moving more--so just walked on the treadmill for about 50 minutes--SLOW (compared to the former me) and at only a 1% incline--BUT I feel happy that I actually did it. Gotta start somewhere!

Kerry, sounds like you had a house full again last night. I am happy for you that your grandkids are so nearby and enjoy spending time with you. Once kids reach their teen (or preteen) years, they aren't always thrilled to spend time with adults of any age! I hope my grands will continue to want to see me as they grow up. My oldest GD just turned 12 last week and so far she is an absolutely delightful young girl. (But turning into a young LADY all too quickly).

Rita, another common bond you share with many of us on this board is a medical background. Donna is a nurse, as is Sandra. I retired from nursing a long time ago, but I guess that "once a nurse, always a nurse" (although so much has changed in medicine over the years I doubt I could actually go back to work in nursing even if I wanted to!!) Your shopping trip yesterday sounds like so much fun!! DH and I always said that book stores were dangerous territory for us as we would usually leave them with MANY new books! (He would purchase the latest in nonfiction and best sellers and I would purchase cookbooks!!) I am TRYING to convince myself to start eliminating some books now as part of my de-cluttering!!

Mary, sorry you are facing a week of indoor activities with your class! It is so nice when they can go outside to run off pent up energy!! I am so glad you are feeling better this morning and I think your plan to stay in this afternoon is a good one! Amazing that Annalise is ready for potty training! My sweet 5 year old GD was potty trained relatively early and easily also--not so some of the other grandkids. And my nephew's 3 ½ year old is just NOW getting potty trained!! (her parents are the kind that let the child lead the way---can you spell T-R-O-U-B-L-E ahead? )

Pam, you are absolutely correct that we should not whine when our weather is so much better than other areas--but I will tell you that my mother would complain about the cold here when she came to visit and she lived in Minnesota!!!!! My sister still lives in the upper Midwest and has been having subzero temperatures, so she also reminds me that I don't have it so bad!! I hope your weather improves soon! I still remember living in Minnesota and (literally) having boogers freeze!!

Football is starting, so will catch you all later!!!

Hope you all have a great afternoon and may your team win!! (I always assume everyone else is a football fan also!!!)

Nyla and Mary, don't get me going....JUST raining? I should be so lucky. LOL!! I'll take rain any day over this freezing snow. It's so cold that it crunches when you walk. The kind of cold that (as Calvin of Calvin and Hobbs puts it) freezes your boogers before you get 5 steps from the door. emoticon PLEASE - just let it rain! That means it's not freezing!

There - that's my whine done for the day. Actually, at the moment, the sun is shining, but I can see the clouds rolling in - again - so it won't last. The temps have risen a little bit, but not enough to make much of a difference.

Anyway, time to rummage through facebook and see if there's anything interesting in there, then I have a small pile of books to work my way through. :)

God bless,

Pam from SW Ontario

Hi, friends! Like Nyla, my Houston weather is so depressing! It’s still raining and although it’s supposed to get ‘warmer’ today the rain will last most of the week. That means having the kids indoors most of the time and I have Parent Preview on Friday morning. I will need to really spruce the classroom up on Thursday in hopes that they haven’t destroyed everything, lol! I thought I was getting sick last night but thank goodness I am better this morning. I was achy and my throat hurt. It still does but not any worse and I didn’t have fever like I thought. I will come home after Mass and just hunker down. No pool for me today!

Kerry, Dave was very self-sufficient about almost everything so I never had to wait on him. One he quit traveling for work HE fixed most of our meals! I wish Larry gave you more help and more support. I wonder now that he’s retired if you could sit him down and sort out ‘duties’ including meals, etc. Let him know that you are NOT his maid!! I hope it will work out. Just do what you can for yourself! You are always so welcoming to your grandchildren and their friends!

Rita, the other online weight loss group was eDiet’s. I came home from a California vacation with all my cute summer dresses/jackets way too tight! We ate a lot and since it was cold in San Francisco, I bought and wore a sweatsuit most of the time…very ‘forgiving!’ When I got home I got on the scale and was horrified to see how much weight I’d gained not only on vacation but in general. So I had my younger son do an internet search for a weight loss group and signed up. I actually relearned to type because I had to ‘respond’ to the groups! I found a teacher group and made some wonderful friends, just like here. Three of us are still friends and we have visited each other over the last 15 years! We all dropped off when they prices started going nuts. A splinter group of us are still active on a forum group. We are all still trying to lose what we’ve lost and regained over 15 years!! How wonderful that you and Kerry have another connection. I think this group is so fabulous for all of that. We have SO much in common. Your trip yesterday sounds like it was so much fun! Dave never enjoyed getting out and doing things much but he did love Barnes and Noble…we both were voracious readers and he loved to go there and the grocery store…Half Price Books, too! Glad you got books and other fun things for a great price and had fun with your friends.

Nyla, I put the Widow’s Club date on my calendar and will get the info from you next month. It might be nice to see how others have done…the Grief Share groups were not ‘uplifting’ and it sounds like this one has a better track record! If anything, we get to meet again! I don’t know anything about the dog shows in general, but Blitz is a very handsome guy! I like seeing all the pictures of you and your sweet granddaughter, too.

Cherilyn is potty training Annalise this weekend and I need to find out today how it’s going. She did okay on Friday and I didn’t check yesterday. Oh, the joys of babyhood/toddler times!

Happy Sunday,
Mary

Mary, by any chance was your other weight loss group back in the early 2000's called Slim Body Coach? I did a lot with them. I think less Buddha in the Bathtub is hysterical!

Kerry that is amazing that your nephew's wife is at UNMC! I know those hallways well. I worked in Medical Records there before doing my 12 month internship there as a Med Tech. I even got snowed in there for a couple days and nights when Omaha got hit with a major storm. My friend and I had the run of the place as no one could get in or out. We had such fun. Having fruit from a neighbor's tree sounds like a dream to me! How I would love that. Yum! I send my sympathy on your pain in your thumb, wrist and elbow. I fell about 2 yr ago and broke my right thumb. Sometimes it still aches and I still can't bend it as easily as before. I'm so happy we are connected as FB friends. My life is pretty much on there! Sounds like you've got quite a houseful tonight! Enjoy!

Nyla, it's just so nice to have you as a FB friend! I'll enjoy seeing whatever you put on there.

Yesterday started out so slippery and cold. I just hunkered down at home all day. It did warm up for a melt-down later though. My DS made a suggestion on how to re-arrange the living room. He's good at that so I said go for it. I'm really pleased at how it turned out, esp. since he moved all the furniture, vacuumed and swept too. Now I'll get to do the pretty part since the Christmas decor has been put away. I haven't been home most of the day today and I had such a wonderful time. Met our dearest friends from out of town for lunch. Then we went over to Harbor Freight where we went up and down EVERY aisle, nook and cranny. The store was having it's big blow out sale so we got lots of $1.00 deals and a few other great bargains. After we bid adieu and they headed up the mountain DH and I drove to one of our favorite bookstores. They have new and used books and their deal was buy 5 used books for $20.00. Being heavy readers DH and I each got our 5 books and I got one extra "new" one. Problem is I still have 3 more books on an Amazon wish list! Todays store didn't have them. We worked up another appetite shopping so DH and I went to Chili's. I had some great chili lime tilapia. I can't believe I didn't order a margaRITA at either lunch or dinner. I must be committed to trying to lose weight. That is a huge win for me as I enjoy that "almost lemonade" lol

Tomorrow is another full day. Sleep well ladies!

The girls fixed some pizza rolls about 5 and they walked to Walgreens on the corner for some milk which I paid for and with their own money got some cookies so they've been satisfied with that. It's 9:30 now so I'm not fixing anything else for dinner. I just have to chase grandson out of the room to the hideabed so they can all get to sleep before too long. For anyone who doesn't know when my grandkids come to spend the night they usually bring at least one friend along.

Hi Ladies!

It has remained a dismal, dreary day here with temps in the low 40's and intermittent rain. Great day for watching football!!! First game is a close one!

Sue, you are so right about those of us in the South responding to "cold" weather!! DH and I used to laugh about it years ago and then became the same way--if it gets below 60 we get cold!!! I think it is fantastic you didn't gain any weight while on your cruise. And you are also correct about feeling better when one eats better. I wonder why something so logical is so difficult to do????? I always hate Unpacking more than packing. The young lady at the club meeting seemed very sweet. I think she had attended at least one previous meeting so must not be too intimidated by us older ladies. I hope she is there again next month.

Kerry, glad to hear your hip is feeling better! And I envy your sunshine there in the Sunshine State! Haven't seen much of that around here lately. Have fun with your grands tonight. Did you decide to have breakfast for dinner??

Pam, sorry to hear your mom struggled so much after your dad's death. And I am sorry that it caused more stress for you as well.

Mary, how thoughtful of your room mother to organize the tribute for your birthday! I hope you are enjoying this cold weekend indoors as a slug! I got caught in the rain at the grocery store yesterday, but thankfully it was light rain! I am not a fan of cold rain! On the other hand, I am not a fan of drought either, so I guess I am not easily pleased!!!! I hope you can go to the Widow's Club meeting next month. I am hoping I will benefit from that community of women.

Rita, thank you for accepting my friend request on FB. I rarely post on FB, so most of what you see there for me will be dog related!!

Sandra, how strange that you are not able to see all of the posts. I am so glad to hear that you are doing ok after the shock of losing your dad on Christmas Day. NO matter how old we get or how old they are, it is still our parent and a huge loss. I hope you continue to do well. Glad to see you back on the Board.

Well, game one is over so I need to get a bite to eat and then settle in to watch game #2. Hope that game turns out to be as exciting as the first one!!

Later all!!

Mary, people are so picky and easy to "hurt" that you just can't ever be politicallly correct enough-someone will not like what you say no mater what.

I now have 2 girls here and GS will be here about dinner time. The girls say they want breakfast for dinner but Larry is just now having lunch so....

Rita, one more link here-my nephew's wife is now an instructor at the UN Medical Center. She's teaching physical therapy. Just started last year.

Sandra, glad you're back. Sorry you're entire feed doesn't show up. That's kind of strange.

I would be a lot more successful with the shake program if my husband was always "needing" to eat and complaining that I'm not fixing him enough food. I do have a couple bags of grapefruit from the neighbor's tree for snacking on now-that should help.

Guess I don't have much to say-my right thumb, wrist and elbow hurt from the cooler weather or something and I can't find any icy hot in the house. I may have to make a run to the store this afternoon or evening.

The flowers were a very sweet gesture, Rita! I once referred to my weight loss as 'a little less Buddha in the bathtub' because I was so pleased to see less of a tummy. A person from another weight loss group way back in the early 2000's took offence to that...I didn't know she was Buddhist! I try to be more 'politically correct' now, but I'm back to the Willie Wonka stage. Could be due to my candy/cookie obsession!! Enjoy the time with your friends. The soup restaurant sounds delicious!

I did a quick Kroger run and got more things to hold me for the week. I found a Pinterest site that has Olive Garden knock off recipes and will make their dressing as well as the chicken gnocchi soup. I love that one. I have a 15 bean soup package, too, for the ham from Christmas. I cleaned out a lot from my freezer. I was tired of 'mystery meat packages' every time I opened the door! I need to fold clothes and cull out more things. I have lots of school work to do as well.

Sue, I know that holidays are hard for you as well. Having the memories helps but doesn't make up for those people in our lives not being here. I hope you can veg today and get your strength back.

Okay...off to work again!

Sandra, hi I'm Rita. I live in Colorado and about 2 weeks ago I joined this group. I love being here. I'm sorry to hear of your losses and esp the timing on them. I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Sue. Thank you for the welcome. The loss of a parent on such a memorable day certainly provides a poignant reminder each year. I still miss my beloved Dad after 18 years. These special people will always be with us. I look forward to getting to know you.

Mary, I loved seeing the flowers from your class. I'm glad we could connect on FB. I had to laugh at your referral to the Oompa Loompas. I sometimes say I feel like Jabba the Hutt. We know when we reach those points it's time to do something about it. We've been eating lots of soups lately. So far just since Christmas we've had tortilla, ham and bean, veggie beef and last night was tortellini soup. There is a restaurant in Evergreen that's a soup buffett. They offer 10 homemade selections. I usually have to get the sampler of 2. I never can commit to only one!

Today we are meeting up with some out of town friends at a Mexican restaurant. I once read the safest thing to get is a guacamole tostada. That is my go to meal. If they do it right they pile the lettuce on and it's almost like a salad.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Sandra, there is never a good time for death but the holidays are especially hard. I have found that since my Mom died on Thanksgiving, her birthday was right at New Years and that my Dad's birthday was 12/26 and he died on my son's birthday, I have lots of special days to think of them and share the event of the day. I do miss them, but I know they are with me in many ways. It will get easier with time.

Sandra, this came through, so you're back! You were a wonderful daughter and I know your daddy knew that and appreciated that. I certainly understand the trauma of the Christmas time deaths...but on the other hand with so many in your family right at the same time, maybe you can look at it like God wanted them all to get together and for the family to be able to take a deep breath, acknowledge them all at the same time, and then go on with your life. I'm trying, and can say that this year Christmas was much better than the last 3!

Just jump back in when you can!

Rita, I did get the friend request from you so I hope it's okay on both ends now. Many of us here are FB friends...it's easy to see pictures and get quick updates!

I woke up at 5:25 without my alarm on...drat my body clock! But I slept all night without a potty break and was warm and toasty so that was good. I have been on the computer, catching up with my Spark Groups and emails...I need to clean out the mystery meats from the freezer today and start all over. I can't find things that I KNOW are in there and that's frustrating. I have a soup recipe I want to try and once again, I vow to exercise and start over. My Fat Pants are snug and I have put my 12's away again. So sad. I have regained all my WW lost weight and feel like an Oompa Loompa, or whatever those Willie Wonka guys are, lol!!

Oh, my goodness...my yard guys are here and I'm still in my nightgown. Ugh. I don't like to be 'undressed' when they are here, lol....gotta run!

Hello to all,
The last posted message I'm finding was dated 12-18-2014 but I know there have been posts since then. I don't know why all of a sudden my side of the message board is so messed up. I do hope you all get this. Thanks for responding to my emails and for the kind words. I am doing well dealing with my fathers death. The funeral turned out to be a nice one afterall. (Well as nice as a funeral can be) I was very glad I arranged to have the minister and that DH arranged the military service. It would not have been very nice without it, even if my other syblings didn't really want it. I am doing ok because I did not expect my Dad to live forever. But of course I am missing him and always will. I was just dealing with the unexpected shock of it and of course the Christmas day part of it. My grandmother was taken to the hospital Christmas day and died the next day, that was 30 something years ago, then 24 years ago my twin brother died on Christmas day and now my Dad has died on Christmas day. It will be a few years before I will become comfortable again with Christmas.
I'm very sorry that I cannot address each of you, but I don't know what is going on with you all. I do hope your Christmas was a good one and I send each of you best wishes for a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Pam and Mary, oh bummer so far I haven't gotten any friend requests or msg from either of you. I love FB and hope we can figure this out! I am in St. Joan of Arc parish so you have the right Rita. I just went back and checked my privacy settings and I see I needed to click on another setting so it should work now. Hope to hear from you! This will be fun!

Update: Pam I got your friend request and I found you Mary from her FB page! I think we're getting there! emoticon

TGIF…TGIF! I had temps of 35 to 38 today with rain all day…indoor snack, indoor recess, indoor lunch…and indoor PE in my room during my planning time! I was very short tempered today and the kids were really out of control. But they did such a sweet thing this morning before becoming crazy, lol! My room mother had almost all the kids bring me notes and /or flowers for a belated birthday celebration! So the day started off very nicely. Went downhill with the weather. I am so glad to be home on the couch, being a slug. I hope to slug it all weekend.

Sue, what a terrible thing to have happen for your brand new year cruise vacation! I’m glad you’re home safe and sound. At least getting your groceries and having sunshine will get the weekend off to a good start. Just let the luggage sit for a while and stay in sweats all weekend. It’s not going anywhere! So glad you are getting better. Take care and rest up! Hooray for you not gaining weight, even if you were too sick to enjoy much of the food. Give me crème brulee any day and I’ll be happy!

Pam, I saw your FB video about the weather…wow! Polar Vortex is nothing to mess with! I’m sorry widowhood was so hard for your mother. It certainly isn’t anything I would wish on anyone but like Nyla said, there’s always someone who has a harder time than I do. I’m learning that so much. I sure hope Leah will be safe traveling in this weather!! How’s sweet Landon? Cherilyn began potty training Annalise today---she tee-teed in the potty after wetting her training pants 3 times, lol. Grace sat on her potty with her diaper on and refused to take it off but insisted on being right there with her sister..that may end up being a blessing in disguise. She is always behind Annalise but is quite competitive!

Kerry, you have been so active! How’s the diet supplement thing going? It sounds like you are being so careful with what you’re eating. I’m eating everything in sight whether it’s healthy or not. I am rapidly growing back into my ‘fat clothes’ and even with exercise it’s not enough. I know there are Silver Sneakers classes in various places in the Katy area where that over 55 community is but not at my gym. I remember that you’ve said your stepmother isn’t that much older than you…sort of a quirky situation. I hope she will take your dad into consideration since she ‘chose’ him!!!

Nyla, the widow’s group does sound interesting. I will go with you next month if all works out! How awful for the youngest one there to be that young and have a small child. I hope good things will happen for her.

Rita, I sent you a FB request. I don’t remember if it was a message like Pam said or a true ‘request’ for a friend! You’re in St. Joan of Arc parish, right? I tried to see things that might indicate that it was the right Rita, lol! Wow, your granddaughter is learning more in Social Studies than I teach, for sure! My SS book is 2000 so way out of date, lol. My school charges so much money for tuition but takes a long time and a rather ‘inexpensive’ route when it comes to text books and such. We got a new reading program last year but we are making copies of the math program to save money…and there IS no science program. My partner has to come up with her own lessons. I’m glad your DD has benefits and did check out retirement, etc.! That’s great. I’m glad to hear that your husband’s test results were good. I’m sure that’s a huge relief. Good thing that the doctor is on top of things. Your after Mass group sounds lovely and very supportive!

Okay..I’ve been on the computer for so long and will go take a hot bath and snuggle down in bed to watch more tv. Sluggy Mary, lol!

Sue, I am so glad that you are feeling better. There's nothing worse than feeling crappy when you're on holidays and away from your own bed and familiar surroundings. We're both in that "polar vortex" and our temps are bitterly cold too. We have had pretty much non-stop snow for 2 days..ugh.

Nyla, I agree with Sue about that young widow. She must be so lost without her husband to help her with young children. She probably really needs a friend who knows what it feels like to lose a husband. I used to get so cross with my mother after my dad died. I know she was grieving, but you'd swear she was the only person who had ever lost a spouse, and she could not comprehend that a younger person could possibly feel the loss of a husband as much as she did hers after 40 years. I tried to tell her that love doesn't work that way, but no - she was short with everyone who tried to sympathize, and said they couldn't possibly understand. She probably could have done with a "widows support group" but I know she wouldn't have gone to one. When my aunt (with whom she was very close all their married lives) tried to sympathize with her, my mom bitterly said "how could you possibly have a clue when you STILL have your husband?". It was very sad, and made me very stressed, but you can't change someone's heart. Only they can do that.

Kerry, you exercise so much it makes me dizzy to read of your sessions. I don't exercise - period. I have all the intentions in the world, but no "do". LOL! The most exercise I'm getting right now is switching my left foot from the front of the heater to the right foot.

Rita, I went onto your facebook page, but there wasn't a place for me to click "Friend Request". I sent you a message but I still haven't heard anything.

Anyway, I'm off for now.

God bless,

Pam from SW Ontario

A lot of medicare supplements cover the Silver Sneakers program however if you do belong to a gym that has the program then you can take the classes.

The hip is feeling a lot better today-maybe just a twinge or two. Right now I don't know since I just woke up from a fairly long nap!

The temperature in south Florida normally stays above 70 so I bet they WERE freezing. lol We have been in the 30's here the last couple of nights and this morning the winds were whipping right through me but now it's back up into the 50's and the sun is finally shining after several days of clouds.

Sue, sorry you got sick on your cruise but glad you got to enjoy the parties. The one cruise we went on left port on Jan 1-it was cheaper than the New Year's Eve cruises plus we were going as a family with the two grandkids who were both under 6 or 7. I can't remember the exact year we went but it was Sarah's graduation from nursing school.

Nyla, that young lady may be a good person to befriend. It sounds like she could use a few wise and stable women friends right now. I hope she wasn't scared away by all the "Old Ladies", You could all help each other in many ways.

It's bright and sunny but freezing cold here in MD. Good day to wrap up in a blanket and read a book. Just got back from the grocery story, it will take me a while to warm up.

I got back from my cruise last night. It's always nice to sail the Caribbean. I managed to get the Flu while onboard and spent several days in my cabin sleeping. I'm finally feeling better. New Years Eve was fun on the ship. There were huge parties all over the ship, with lots of music and dancing. We did the party on the top deck, out under the stars. It was warm and beautiful and we watched to other parties and the ball drop on the big Jumbo-tron above the deck. They also showed us scenes from other New Years Eve parties on other Princess ships around the world. Great fun.

We laughed when we returned to Ft Lauderdale, it was "cold", about 55 and the locals were dressed like it was the Artic. When were arrived in MD last night it was 7 degrees. Some difference.

I got on the scales and did not gain any weight. I'm sure being sick helped, but I also was trying to be very careful of what I ate. I have learned I feel so much better if I don't eat all that rich, high calorie food, I tried to stick to a simple meat and veggie entree, but I'll admit more than one Creme Brulee slipped onto my dessert plate. My weakness, I love it.

Now on to my most unfavorite part of traveling, unpacking. I hate it as much as packing. - s

Happy Friday to you all,

It is a cold and rainy day here--but compared to many places in the country, we are doing pretty well. It is about 40 degrees and raining--chills to the bone!

Rita, so glad to hear your DH was ok. That is really scary. Hope you had another good night of sleep. I did better last night than the night before--one day (or night) at a time!!

Pam, hope you stay warm and safe!! And that you keep your feet warm!!

Sue, so glad you are back! Hope you are fully recovered now and ready for the new year. I am hoping for a good one all around!!

Kerry, Glad you got to water aerobics again--how was your hip today? I should check on my insurance plan for Silver Sneakers--but doubt I would be covered as I have a high deductible (which I am thrilled to say that I have not met!!) I have an HSA and must pro-rate the contribution this year since I will be switching over to Medicare when I hit the magic number this year. Oh joy…

Going to start dinner. DD, SIL, and GD are coming for dinner tonight.

Have a nice day everyone.

Hi, Sue! What have you been up to? I did water aerobics this morning after my Friday morning coffee with friends and then Larry and I went to lunch. I saved half of mine for dinner or lunch tomorrow. I got to bring home one of the Silver Sneaker water boards and will keep it in my trunk just in case the gym lets Tracy start a class and I'll be able to use it any time I use the pool. I'm still thinking of putting away my inside Christmas stuff but haven't done it, yet. Larry complained stuff was on the hearth so we couldn't have a fire-guess he doesn't know how to move it to the floor? Our son in law and grandson brought us some firewood from the oak tree they finally had taken down. We have definitely had some winter weather-people a mile or so north of our house saw some snow flurries-extremely light flurries but snow just the same. This afternoon the sun is finally peeking through the clouds so it may warm up. Okay, that's my so exciting life! Oh, guess I am missing a funeral-one of our seniors from church passed away the other day-she has had Alzheimer's for a while now.

Good morning ladies. Woke up his morning to winter. We've only had winter weather for just over a week, but it has been pretty vicious so far. Blizzard is over (sort of), but it's still snowing and the plows are doing their best to dig us out....sigh

Nyla and Mary I was happy to hear my DIL mention today about the retirement and benefits she's getting. She got something in the mail she was reading to me so I didn't even have to ask. Teachers in our state have a good retirement program and DIL has benefits. I really don't know if she'll use those or stay on DS's. I don't really ask much about all that. With 5 grown kids and spouses I can't keep up with them all. Actually it's a relief I don't have to.

Mary, 20 pages a week for language arts alone is a lot of work for 1st grade. Wow I had no idea. My GD is in 1st grade and I know she is learning so many things I guess I never thought of it from the teacher's side of things. I pick up this GD one day a week from school and she is always so happy. I love hearing about her day. She usually has something special to show me and I'm always so impressed. One day it can be a slat map of the world and another day a rock from the playground. lol She was learning about Mesopotamia and I think she especially liked saying that name. Grandparent's Day program was adorable. I do know teachers have lots of energy!

It must have been a good night for sleeping last night. I did well too. When the alarm went off I considered staying in bed but on Thurs. after morning Mass we have coffee and donuts/danish and a bunch of us sit around and visit. It's a special group I look forward to meeting up with. We chat about everything from prepping for disasters to congratulating the newly pregnant mama at the table. Actually there are usually about 3 tables of people. Sometimes the guys all end up at one table together and other times they mingle. We have lots of laughs with everyone.

Kerry I wish our insurance had SS. It is such a good deal and saves so much $$. When I worked at the rec center a huge portion of our guests were with SS. It makes so much sense as prevention by exercise is worth it to the insurance companies.

Pam I looked at your weather map and you are certainly right in the middle of that blizzard. No wonder your feet were cold and you were feeling weepy. I hope you are feeling better today.

Pam and Mary and anyone else on Facebook? I'm here: https://www.facebook.com/rita.pilger if you would like to join me.

My plan for today was to go to one of our most wonderful nurseries and to buy some heirloom seeds. I don't have a green thumb but I thought I might try some new seeds this spring/summer. Only I didn't make it. I had mentioned how sick my DH was last weekend. He's been much better but he had a follow up appt with his Dr today who ordered all sorts of tests like MRI and sonogram of his carotid, an EKG and blood work. When I found all this out I left my coffee klatch to join him. I am happy to report all was negative but it was a bit nerve wracking wondering if he was okay. I'm relieved the Dr. checked him out well though.

I didn't do too bad on my meals today. It's good I'm striving for a greater awareness.

Have another night of sweet dreams everyone!
