I start with 24 ounces of unsweet tea in the morning. When I have consumed about half of it, I fill it back up with crushed ice. By the end of the day, I'm pretty much drinking water or sometimes what looks like dirty water :) So, I'm counting it!

THE National Institute of HEALTH says FLUIDS. But you must be aware of what the water embellishes. Tea with sugar needs to be tracked. Many people add chemical additives like aspartame Splenda. I for one dislike drinking plain water of any kind I use tea, herb tea and Stevia. Pat in Maine. emoticon

Only WATER counts as water, but you can certainly realize water intake in lettuce, tea, cucumbers, etc....

You can not count anything as pure water if it has caffeine or other substances.

Checkout from your local library "The Ultimate Tea Diet" by Mark 'Dr. Tea' Ukra. On this diet, you drink, hot or cold, ---green, black, oolong or white tea--- all day. Must be unsweetened. Herbal is not allowed. As for food, in moderation. Hope you like!

unsweetened herbal tea maybe, but I wouldn't count any kind of caffeinated tea as water. Caffeinated drinks dehydrate the body.

I drink green tea every day at work over ice. I don't add anything to it so I count it - since I make it with water and don't add anything to it.

WOW this might really help me achieve my daily water quota. I absolutely dislike drinking water and although it is one of my goals I rarely attain more than a one day streak. I just do not feel thirsty. I find water boring unless in a restaurant and it's full of ice and lemon. I could handle tea much better but have never thought it could be used as water. Thanks.

I use it in place of water. I have found that when I don't drink tea I'm thirsty and when I do drink it, I"m not. Therefore it must have some hydrating effect. Plus I've read it really doesn't dehydrate you. I drink 6 cups of tea a day (2 green, 2 black, and 2 herbal) and 2-4 cups of pure water. If I didn't count the tea as water and had to drink an additional 6 cups of water, I would never leave the bathroom.

I would think as long as it is calorie free or if you count it in your nutrition tracker if it has calories.

Thanks for your 'water' post!
Also, I am in the early stages of kidney disease.
The doctor wants me to limit fluids to 32 ounces a day.
I am finding this to be a greater challenge than 8 8 ounces of fluids a day.
It is what it is!

Veg, for all those here that say no, I just want to take them to a desert for a day and after 6 hours see if a pitcher of tea is refused. Of course it hydrates. Don't believe me believe a credible source:
www.webmd.com/parenting/features/healthy-b
everages

And the 8 glasses of water. Well that depends on how much water rich food you are eating, the climate you are in and how much you weigh. Of course, someone with a body mass that weighs 300 lbs will need more hydration than one at 125 lbs. So here to figure what you really need:
