Homemade mexican food (especially if carb free) can be very low cal even with some sour cream :) But yes, good idea to measure to make sure!!

Oh so that's what menopot is. I have fibroids and they give me a pot belly. My doctor doesn't think they are bad enough to be removed.

There was one burrito that I used to buy for my parents. Half of it was 500 calories and 36 grams of fat. We obviously don't buy that one. I don't think they make it anymore.

This is why you need to track your food very carefully. Food that looks healthy, might have a lot of HIDDEN sodium, fat and calories.

Mexican - Turkish fusion sounds fascinating. The combination of spices could be very flavorful.

The bowl looks a lot healthier than the burrito. If you are going to eat there, opt for the bowl instead of the burrito. don't eat the tortilla and definitely skip the sour cream and the cheese toppings.

Those bowls look delicious. I bet they can be recreated at home with a lot less sodium.

Danny - Yes - the bowls DO look amazing and I can easily see why people are tempted LOL!

Elaine - I know - when you look at the various items you don't realize what is hidden in them. For most people it probably wouldn't matter much, however for your health it is a problem.

Gosh, Danny - that looked so yummy and has made me hungry. Just as well dinner isn't too far away. Anyway, Just the Tortilla, Lettuce, Salsa, Sour Cream and Couscous has 1100mg sodium.

That's what I was thinking.

The burritos EOWYN eat are from fast food chains like the McDonald's or Burger King breakfast burrito.

@EOWYN24241

What's in the burritos you're eating in Malaysia ? Where are you buying them ?

Yes indeed: Burritos and subs can be calorie bombs, never mind the less than quality ingredients. If anything, if you are craving the flavors of burritos, how about a taco or fajita salad? Be sure to try and find salt free seasoning. Or taco or burrito wraps using iceberg or romano lettuce instead of the tortilla shells.

Lettuce wraps can used in place of bread too. Elaine, I know you like romaine lettuc. Can you utilize these ideas instead?

I am so lost. What is Menopot?

A prepackaged sub or burito is usually a sodiun bomb. Unless you can make it from scratch. Controlling the sodium and calorie content.

I toss the free food coupons too. I get a circular weekly and it immediately goes in the recycling bin. There's a KFC in my town. I have lived here almost 5 years and not gone there once. As a matter of fact, it's on a path I take regularly when I go out for a long walk or run and every time I have to go by it, I nearly vomit because the spicy oily stench from the building is so awful. I wonder how people can eat it.

I don't know what Arch meant by it, but a lot of subs and burritos are ill-advised too, re high sodium/sugar/fats. Some of Subways subs have up to 1300mg sodium. That is more than I would mostly eat in a day, and not much less than your total daily maximum recommendation. A burrito is in a similar situation. They are fine, however you have to be very careful about what you put in them, and a lot of the fillings are sodium-loaded, PLUS some of the breads are higher than a lot of other breads. It is a case of really studying the nutrition information available.

@ARCHIMEDESII I use Flaked Brown Rice to make mine up. It is very filling when cold, and in the summer I often have it like that for breakfast.

I actually toss coupons for free fast food too. I did this even when I had to live off the smell of an oily rag. The meal coupons I keep are ones where they have a much healthier range of food to choose from.

You'd be shocked how many coupons for free fast food meals I've tossed into the recycling.

BTW, this is why you have a menopot.

Before the shutdown, I would go to a wonderful Tibetan restaurant for their lunch specials. One recipe they had that I really enjoyed was their sweet rice. I think it was basmati rice mixed with raisins, currents and dried cranberries. no soy sauce.

It was slightly sweet and refreshing.

Whenever I make rice, I will add a small amount of chopped dried fruit for a little hint of sweetness.

So you had coupons. You can still choose to decline. Either choose to eat crap or complain about your menopot. You won't lose weight or manage your renal disease if you continue to eat junk.

Hey, friends, I just want to clear something up.

The only reason I allowed myself a piece of KFC is my uncle gave us RM40 worth of coupons. I'd just like to say that we hardly get coupons. I only had 1 piece and I made sure my breakfast and lunch was super light to compensate for the heavier KFC dinner.

Rest assured that I won't make a it a habit of eating fast food. Unless it's healthy like a sub or burrito. I haven't had pizza in soooo long. Ever since the lockdown.

So, don't worry, I'm not spiralling down a slippery slope.

If I want a cinnamon hit I either make a milky thick rice pudding and put chopped dates in for the sweetening, (and sometimes PLUS a bit of banana) and add cinnamon to it. Another thing I do is make a slice of toast and while hot spread some mashed banana on it and give it a good sprinkling of cinnamon. Both of those are a far better alternative - much healthier and tons less lousy nutrition.

Whether you're thinking of making cinnamon rolls or croissants, it is better to only buy one because the more that's in your house the more temptation you will have. You are smart and I am sure you can think of something healthier and 'safer' to indulge with. emoticon

A few years ago. I was on Weight Watchers. A cinnamon roll would take all my points for the day and then some. I haven't had a cinnamon roll since.

I make cinnamon toast. Even that is a treat. It is still a bit of a calorie bomb. Haven't had it in a while

I would definitely make the healthier version and I ALWAYS cut sugar in half when sugar is involved. Sometimes even a 1/4 and it still tastes great. You can make individual one OR you can make a batch and then freeze them individually IF you can make yourself only eat one every other month or so. Or give the others to someone else :)

I know that there are individuals on this site who continually advise against depriving oneself of beloved fattening treats, preaching "moderation" instead. I think that's terrible advice. The reality is that if people were able to practice moderation with regard to fattening, sugary foods, there wouldn't be an obesity epidemic.

If you want results, you have to change what you are doing. Yes, that DOES mean giving up foods that you KNOW are bad for you, or that you can't resist. (In my case, it was ice cream.) You can have results, or you can have excuses, but you can't have both. So make up your mind which is more important to you.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I would choose something other than a multi-calorie cinnamon roll.

Heehee- you hit upon the reason I haven’t taken up baking during all this - I am one woman and the lady thing I need is a house full of baked goods😂if it were me I would make the smallest amount possible or just purchase a single (the mall ones are pretty tasty)

I was hankering for cinnamon rolls, I was debating between these 2 recipes, the 1st one looks yummmier :

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYcOFcJ_Uzc

But the 2nd one seems simpler and healthier :

www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJC7AkBxiMU

However, I don't want to be tempted by an entire tray of cinnamon rolls, so the other alternative is to just buy one cinnamon roll from the mall and be done with it!

What would you do?
