Laundry and floors are my least favorite and both are on the list today! 20 minutes at a time helps! The timer will set me free!

I also use the timer And get as many things done as I can in that time frame! SO, I have to concur with Getully!

I keep my lists small and simple! Never more than the fingers on one hand!

I also use the Tasks in my Microsoft Outlook, room by room has tasks assigned to their category (i.e. Kitchen, Bathrooms, etc). I have tasks for calls I have to make and personal things I have to accomplish as well as medical tasks, etc. It is the only way I stay organized and sync'd with my phone/pc, also because I lose to-do-lists especially if they are on paper. I am just shy of 100 items on my to-do-list.

Color Notes is also good (it is free and online, you can do a to-do list there too).

I break the task down as small as I can, set a timer, and see how many things I can cross off before the timer rings.

I try to just focus on one task at a time rather than everything that's on my plate for a given day or week. This reduces my stress and increases my productivity.

My tasks aren't really dreaded. It is my lack of energy that makes me put off things. Darn! emoticon

I give myself about 10 minutes to sit around and think about it. While sitting down and thinking about it--I make plans on how to tackle it.

I have a HUGE pile in my garage and I need to start getting it out for donation. During the pandemic, I have added to the pile I started last fall. I have also gotten some things more organized, which feels nice. I am also thinking about moving to another state MAYBE in about a year and that is definite incentive to get rid of the crap.

I have a very long list of dreaded tasks!
I started listing them here and got discouraged. So let me start with smaller steps. Today I will tackle the neglected bins of 'deserted laundry' in the bedroom.

I can't wait for the donation places to open back up. I have a pile in my garage to deliver.

This year, I hope to start making my yard look better. Of course, I have several ugly willow trees that need to go away but I don't have several thousand dollars for that.

I have to make a daily and weekly to do list. The weekly list can be as general as it comes. The daily list hast to break my task down into steps. On the weekly the task is : clean the Kitchen. I assign that task to Tuesday. On Tuesdays todo list that task is broken up in steps: 1. clean the counter 2. clean the stove 3. Sweep the floor 4. Mop the floor ect....
So even if I dont complete the whole task I at least accomplished somethings off it

Trying to get it done!

I am a procrastinator too! But I DID clean 22 years of accumulation out of my garage. Felt so good to see a clean floor. I also work better from a list so I will make one today. Maybe clean out one drawer of file cabinet? Pull weeds? Get pots ready to plant? EXERCISE? Make 5 more masks? Scrub kitchen floor? Read a book? Make a salad?I want to do them ALL. Hardest step is to just get started.

I am SUCH a procrastinator! But I am a great list maker, too. Since we have been 'quarantined' I made a long list and a short list. I am trying to do one chore/job a day and cross that off the list. Some are easy and some take more time. I'm not overwhelmed and little by little things are getting done. I'm retired so there is NO excuse. But I do feel a sense of accomplishment once I can cross things off. I used to do Flylady and loved the feeling of 'you can do anything in 15 minutes!' Setting the timer helps a lot, too!

My office/dressing room needs to be decluttered! I have been trying to do this for months! I am going to take a little bit each day this week. Maybe I will be so motivated that I will do it all in one day! We will see! By the way, I love Flylady.

Each morning I make a list - each room and one thing to accomplish in each.
An example:

Kitchen - clean top of stove.
Dining area - put away things that don't belong.
Living room - Declutter for 10 minutes.
Bed room - Make bed.
Bath - Clean counter top.

Got this idea from flylady.net. She has some great ideas for cleaning. I would highly recommend her site.

My husband of 50 years died suddenly last March.....and I am having trouble going through his clothing, shoes, coats, tools, etc. I want my sons to help me, but they too are still grieving and I know it is hard for them.

And then there are all the clothes I have hanging in my closets - I retired 9 years ago and won't ever wear most of those professional outfits again - plus lots of shoes!

Then there are the boxes of old photographs....besides our family pictures, my DH was in the process of sorting through his mom's old photos to send to his sister, cousins, etc.....and I have no idea where to go with them - but they are all laying on the table downstairs, right where he left them.

And an home office flled with drawers of old paperwork, bills, check stubs, etc that I need to shred.

And I could list more and more - I know that I am in desperate need of decluttering help....have read Marie Kondo and have tried to get rid of some of my stuff with her ideas. And my kids bought me a shredder for Christmas. Now I just need to figure out where to start.

Thank you for the advice. I struggle with chronic depression as well, so I do very much understand what you are dealing with. I agree with the getting started advice...I feel like it is often a matter of inertia...an object at rest remains at rest unless acted upon.

I tend to put off dreaded tasks. So I make myself eat that frog . If the only bad thing you had to do every day was to eat a frog then do that first and get it out of the way. Then you don't have to dread it.

I have chronic depression, so motivation to do tasks is extremely hard sometimes. I often manage by breaking the tasks into small "components" and doing one component at a time. Sometimes I will get a big task done by saying I will work at it for 10 minutes and then I can stop. Sometimes I do stop after 10 minutes, but other times I continue on and get more done. Just getting started is the main thing for me. This doesn't make sense to anyone who doesn't suffer from depression, but it's really helpful for those who do.

This falls in the category of "doing your have tos before your want tos" that we have all heard often throughout life. I'm going to try a new thing the year of 2020. EAT THE FROG. I plan to tackle the task I want to do the least at the start of my day at work and home. Then it's done and I don't have to let it take up space in my head all day, and the next and then the day after that (old habits of 2019 and earlier years).

If nothing changes, nothing changes.

You can donate bras at Hanes stores. They send them to women in 3rd world countries.

I have to scoot around the house hiding Christmas presents that I will wrap later. My family is arriving in a few hours.

How are you doing with holidays tasks?

Dress for Success will take these thingandbags and give them to women who are just getting a job and working toward getting off welfare. They are a wonderful organization.

I got a lot done around the house today. I pretended I was a cleaning lady and I had to 'get it done'.

Procrastination sure is no fun! I am finding that I am struggling right now to stay on top of the basics like keeping up with the basics like dishes, laundry, and vacuuming. I'll figure it out lol.

Hi Nola I totally understand that.

Today I got out shopping for a gifts for a party on Wed. I finally did it today after weeks of procrastination. I feel relieved that it's done before the day of.

I really need to spring clean my room too! I have waaaaaay too much stuff!!!

For starters, I have way too many bags! handbags mostly! I need to get rid of my smaller bags that I don't use but I am reluctant to part with anything! Sigh!

I also need to go through my underwear drawers and get rid of all those underwear that I don't wear anymore! But it is soooo hard to start! I open them and already I am getting a headache!

I also need to go through my closet and get rid of the clothes that I no longer wear!

BTW I got a little notebook to detail what I want to get done today. I have a tendency to start several things at once, so it helps me start and finish a task or project.

@KALISWALKER Checking off tasks sure feels good, doesn't it?

My sister was in town this past weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving early; she and her family live in Dallas, TX. I gave her the photos I gathered. It wasn't a huge pile but it felt good to get rid of it.

Hi everyone. I enjoyed reading what you have been doing and your great advice.

I have 24 days before family arrives for the Christmas holidays. I want to sweep through the house one more time to declutter a little more. I am a minimalist at heart so I love seeing lots of nothing.

I am doing an excel spreadsheet to detail it. After I do something, I like to tick it off on a list.

My good deed for the day also helped towards tackling the dreaded task of cleaning out my closet.

DSW has a shoe donation program. If you donate a pair of new or lightly used shoes, you get 50 points if you're a member of their rewards program.

I had two pairs of shoes, one a pair of nice Timberland winter boots. Neither fit my size 10 flippers. Since they don't fit me, maybe someone in need will get good use from them.

My sister and her husband were a lot of help and they even put the bed together fairly quickly. I just had to supervise, order the pizza, and open their beer...LOL The bed looks great and I just have to rearrange a few things in that room and get pillows.

I am really excited! Today I am finally getting that daybed. I ordered it already through Clink and Pull, so my sister and I just have to pick it up. Going through Ikea can be an exhausting thing so this way to order is worth the $5 service charge.

The truly dreaded part? Putting the bed together. Ikea furniture has a reputation lol.

@TABATHA_CAIN Congratulations on your weight loss! As you are working towards your goal, I do encourage you to find some clothes that fit. Second hand stores, thrift stores, and traditional stores' clearance racks are excellent resources to not have to spend so much.

My sister is coming tomorrow to help me go get the daybed I have been eyeing at Ikea for 2 years and can finally afford. I have a box of baseball, mostly MN Twins, memorabilia for her son that she will be taking. I have waited a bit to give it to her because they were in the process of showing their old house and moving into their new place.

I am dreading having to go through my closets. None of my clothes fit me other than my work shirt I just got and a pair of pants and my undies and bras I just recently bought. I have lost almost 70 pounds so I really need to get new clothes. I am just not wanting to buy a lot until I get to where I want to be.

Wow @KALISWALKER Your got rid of a lot of stuff and hopefully, someone else is able to put it to good use, maybe even on their own journey to being healthier. A 30 pound bag of clothes! I know that felt heavy...to imagine that's the excess you were lugging around. I am super proud of you on both counts.

In 2016 I lost 30 pounds so I did a Marie Kondo to purge my fat clothes. I donated the clothes to a charity that gives the clothes away for free.

I did Marie Kondo and started with all these clothes.

Coincidentally the clothes I donated weighed 30 pounds!

I can only stand for around 7-10 minutes before my back and hip are screaming, so awhile back I did up a chore chart...of 5-20 minute tasks and get my work done in short spurts. Finishing a job feels great....regardless of the time involved.

I am SO encouraged by all your posts! I live alone so every mess is my own. Years back I'd tell myself: "Do one thing at a time and do it well".....now...the bare minimum seems too much most days! I do love having things neat and orderly in my apartment but my Inner Maid has been on extended leave. I think she needs to be replaced.

In an effort to jump start clearing out my closet, I've posted a leather jacket I don't wear to our sale channel at work. I sold one during the summer. If this one doesn't get any interest, I'll take it to a consignment store. If that doesn't work out, off to donation.

I ordered another tshirt quilt yesterday from Project Repat. They had a 40% off sale and I ordered a twin size. I will be able to send in 20 tshirts I don't use and are hogging up space. I don't want to get rid of them because they do have memories. I will put the blanket to good use.

For customer service week, my management team gave us 2 30 minute blocks of non phone time to do what we wanted. I was able my time yesterday to get my home office (I work from home) a bit cleaned up. I need to get a better desk eventually but getting some organization done was nice.

2BDYNAMIC, yes, that is one I end up trying to avoid too!! But must do or it ends up stinky in the bathroom!

Today I'm doing the dreaded task of cleaning the exercise room and trying to figure out what to do with the boxes that have been tossed in there because no one knows what to do with them. Oh joy! Hopefully DH will help me.

Break them up into manageable parts and do one at a time. It might help to make a list of which have the most priority. I read-I think on Sparks-JOLT Which means “Just One Little Thing”.

Crouchingflea, I can't wait to hear how it goes. I got through another bit of stuff. I spend 20 minutes or so going through a pile and got some stuff sorted into the trash, recycling, and memory boxes I started.

Keep up the great work.

GABY1948, I've heard that works best, and will be trying it out for the next two weeks!! My most dreaded task is cleaning. It just seems like a never ending task. So, Starting tomorrow, that will be first, then exercise (my 2nd dreaded task because I'm so out of shape) then sewing lessons.

I didn't go through all the kitchen boxes, one box is grilling things that I'm betting DH forgot we even had!!! Another had all my baking tins and cake pans (I've not been able to make cakes because we didn't know where they were, and they are nice Wilton ones and I was not willing to buy more!). So, our kitchen is tiny, I can't keep much, time to get DH to drag the boxes out in the open and just go ahead and go through them all. Hopefully this evening when he gets home. Last night he had an after hours meeting and didn't get home till almost past dinner time, so we were all too tired to bother with it.

I did drag in my multi-color drawer craft drawers (on wheels) I have one in my sewing area, but the one I dragged in had stuff in it from years ago and most of it got thrown away or I'm sending it to a friend (stuff that can't go bad) who is homeschooling and can use it. And some games and stuff to have the girls decide if they wanted to keep or throw away. They have not decided yet.
