I have one beer or cider maybe twice a month. I have no plans to give up something so occasional like that for the purposes of weight loss. Moderation!

I only drink alcohol on the weekends...and not every weekend. Then it's only 1 or 2 drinks.

SUZIQUE77 is right. If you're going to drink alcohol - you need to remember to count those calories. Alcohol has almost twice as many calories per gram as do carbs and proteins. (7 calories per gram for alcohol as opposed to only 4 calories per gram for carbs and proteins. Fats have 9 calories per gram) Then there are also the calories from what you mix the alcohol in like soda, juice, beer etc. Also, often when some people drink, they mindlessly eat more. Don't forget that alcohol also slows down your metabolism leading to weight gain.

If you're trying to lose weight - I really believe you need to avoid the alcohol.

Yes, if done moderately. Only one glass of red wine during the week, and a couple more on Fridays and Saturdays.

I rarely drink anything with calories because I don't want to drink my calories at all even if it is fruit juice, some kind of punch, or alcoholic beverage. You can drink some alcohol and still lose weight but you MUST count it in your total, as if it was food or anything else with calories. If you go over your allotment for the day, you will not lose weight and you may gain. So again, for me I prefer not to drink my calories so I don't.

I can't! I love a nice glass or two of wine in the evening. When I have it, it makes me lose my resolve and eat more. I now limit myself to two glasses of wine every two to three weeks. I'm pretty much at goal weight but if I weighed myself the next day after my wine I would be two to three pounds up and then it takes days to get it off. I don't want to give up wine completely because sometimes my mind needs that relazation and good feeling which I think is just as important for your health as good food and exercise.

I Can but I don't and this is why,,, I usually see a 50 percent reduction in my weight loss with just a couple drinks in a week, For me the trade off is not worth it. I will have a cocktail if I am out and feel like it maybe monthly but much more than that and it interferes my progress.

How much alcohol were you drinking ? As others have noted, alcoholic beverages can contain a lot of calories. Cardiologists now recommend that a person drink a small glass of red wine a day to reduce the risk for heart disease. Small amounts of alcohol have shown to have health benefits when combined with a health diet and exercise.

While small amounts of alcohol would be okay, too much would cause a person to start packing n the weight for different reasons. In particular, the calories add up fast. also, when a person starts drinking, they stop being mindful of what they eat. many people who drink social do tend to start eating mindlessly.

Personally, while I do enjoy an egg nog during the holidays or an occasional beer or glass of wine, I'm not much of a drinker.

I occasionally have one low-carb drink, maybe once or twice a month. Once or twice a year I will have a glass of high-carb wine. That is fine.

Drinking like Gerard Depardu isn't going to work though.

Alcohol contains a lot of calories, and virtually nothing else. It is probably that the food you were eating was a healthy range for you, and the amount of alcohol was the excess calories you needed to ditch. Glad that it is working :-)

I've lost 35 pounds with SP by mainly limiting the amount of alcohol I drink. I have alcohol-free streaks - my longest being 107 days over the holidays last year. I've found that when I go for weeks or months without alcohol - the weight just comes off naturally. And then if I slip for a couple days - the weight comes back on quickly.

Recently I've read "How to Change Your Drinking - a Harm Reduction Guide to Alcohol" by Kenneth Anderson. Discovered I had been following his methods without even realizing there was actually a "name" for it - "harm reduction". Makes a lot of sense.

"Learn from me. . . . and you will find rest for your souls."
