I actually love the Gold drip filters, and had not realized that they come in single-cup-at-a-time varieties. Until shopping on Amazon, where on that site you find the most vibrant coffee aficionados (but the DIY kind, like me) this side of that cafe in Rome that had inspired in Howie Schultz the creation of Starbucks. NO LIE.
Back in the day, when flower power was king, I certainly did not like the paper filter taste of the drip I'd made myself. That had turned me off. Sometimes I taste it in the coffee from the little delis, too; and they are professionals.
In other news, if one is, sadly, constrained to drinking Instant, I've got three coffee-snob-pleasing Instant Coffee recommendations, in order of tastiness to me ...
1. Starbucks VIA Ready Brew Pike Place roast (I started out liking the Colombia, then briefly their Veranda blend ... both of them end with a bad after-bite, however)
2. Whole Foods' 365 Everyday Value Instant Coffee
(looks just like Tasters' Choice, but it is in a whole other League!)
(I know ... I KNOW ..I'd boycotted them for even longer than I'd boycotted Starbucks, but their respective instant coffees are enough to break them boycotts every time)
3. Trader Joe's 100% Colombian Instant Coffee
(This one kinda looks like Tasters' Choice, too. Never got a chance to have boycotted Traders)
In a take-out vein, I also like Tim Hortons and the NEW Au Bon Pain coffee a lot better than Dunkin's
