...when marriage meant something and people didn't divorce at the drop of a hat.

"Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come" (1Timothy4:7-8)

"Jesus answered, 'The most important [commandment] is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength'" (Mark 12:29-30).

Penny candy, stores were NOT open on Sundays, and you could go to McDonalds and get a burger, fry and drink and change back from your dollar, the neighbors could yell at your kids and there would not be a lawsuit. and life was simple, enjoyable, less stressful and much bettr in my opinion!

When the phrase " customer service " still meant something. You could get 4 gallons of gas for a dollar instead of one gallon for 4 dollars. You could go to a movie and get popcorn and a drink and still have change from a five dollar bill. When you wanted to talk to a friend you did it in person at their house. Texas had " blue laws", and stores were closed on Sunday. And the list goes on and on and on !!!

This thread had me going through my old high school yearbooks. Boy, people wore a lot of plaid back then. I looked like I could have been a Brady Bunch sibling. :)

I remember going around house to house collecting pop bottles to get the refund for spending money.

When you could buy a pack of cigarettes out of a machine for 35 cents.

The gas shortages of the early seventies and gas stations being closed on Sundays with a gallon of gas costing around 50 cents.

Woodstock, Moon Landing, Patty Hurst and Nixon being headliners.

A milkshake at McDonalds costing 25 cents and candy bars were 5 cents.

Milk at school was 2 cents a carton and getting 25 cents a week for an allowance.

Wringer washers, ice cube trays with the handle you had to pull to loosen the ice, tv dinners in the aluminum trays and some came with soup, having a record player, pleated skirts, the Beatles coming to America, listening to AM Radio, Telephone booths with closeable doors and a call costs 10 cents, Funny Face Kool Ade

I remember when handheld calculators were new and very expensive. Before personal computers, CDs, DVDs, when VHS tapes were new, transistor radios, slide rules, when color TVs were a novelty, before cable TVs, when microwave ovens for home use came on the market, cars without seat belts, before kids car seats, going to the store and buying cigarettes for my dad @ 50 cents a pack, walking a mile to school and back each day, going to school in a 4 room neighborhood school.........boy a lot has changed!
