Thanksgiving

OK... I have tried to post this entry a couple times now and it didn't work.(and yes I now how to do it, it's not the first one I have done.. LOL) This time I'll 'copy' before I hit post so I'll have it and not have to redo it again...

I was reading JBEATTY81's blog and when I left a comment it started to turn into a blog entry of my own so I figured I should just do my own blog on it...

Thanksgiving is coming and I know I'm not going to go without my favorites. This is a lifestyle change not a diet and I'm not going to go the rest of my life with no stuffing, gravy and other yummy things. I just need to watch my portions. I can also make changes to the recipes to make them better for me(and my family). I took the egg out of my stuffing a couple years ago and this year I can cut back on the sausage and still have the taste of it. I can stick to just pumpkin and apple pies and cut the sugar in the apple and use low or non fat evaporated milk in the pumpkin pie. I can also cut out the top crust on the apple pie and make a crumble topping using oats and flax.

The last couple years we have gone up to NY for Thanksgiving with my DH's brother's and sister's and their families. We aren't this year, a combo of $ issues and that one of his brother's and a sister aren't speaking to the other sister. So since the family dinner is at the house of the sister that no one it talking to what's the point of going up for a family dinner?

I think it's going to be harder for me to be good here at home then it is when we were up there. I have found how reagional and familial holiday recipes are and that it's easier to be good when what you are eating isn't what you would normally have and aren't made the way you would make them. Since I will be doing the cooking everything will be done my way! LOL

I'm going to have to work up my menu and see where I can make some changes to the recipes to cut some calories and fat from them. And I might as well do it now while I'm still supposed to stay off my foot.

    I agree it will be hard at home - but you can definitely do this!! Keep your goals in mind, and plan ahead! Put recipes in the recipe planner now! If you know how much everything is worth and how much of it you need to stick to, then you might have an easier time with that particular day of the year. Remember to be healthy about it - don't try to skip a meal so that you have extra calories for the dinner or something. You don't want to be starving before THAT meal or you might not be able to help yourself!! Preparation, planning and follow through is key!!

    IN my opinion there would be no better way to stay off your foot than to plan a healthy family holiday dinner!! LOL - I know I am weird! Enjoy!

    And you say your are not a meal planner?! lol... Thinking and planning now will help later when it's time. There are some great ways to cut back fat without taste.
