To Dad's and Back

Friday, June 18, 2021

I will keep this short and sweet as my shoulder is killing me and it hurts to extend my arm toward the keyboard.
I went to dad's. I didn't really "pig out" but i did eat more in a day there than I am used to here...and my weight went up 5 lbs. (I'd lost one yesterday and today have not weighed.)
I don't know...we didn't go out for ice cream or anything like that. Dad had a health crisis last FRiday (cardiac) and they put a pacemaker in and he is not cleared to drive yet. Thankfully a friend of mine drove me there and back as it is a 45 minute trip from my house. So we stayed at home for the entire visit. It was quiet but we enjoyed each other's company ...and when I left he said I had been a help to him. I don't really know how that could be but I did help him to place a grocery order from the internet because he was drastically out of everything edible.

It is tempting to not go there anymore since I always gain weight. However Dad is not getting any younger and his age is showing up in his health issues. I would hate to lose these sweet times I have with him just to keep my weight down. NO, I won't do that. But it would be good to manage the problem by - rather than eliminating it-- learning to deal with it in a healthy manner by continuing to track and to maybe have dad let me cook a couple of meals.

This week (past) I was unable to track as I had accidentally left my computer at home.
I look forward to being in the saddle once again,...

Hi, to all who probably wondered where I went. :)

It is harder to see your parent grow older and more frail. My Mom, who used to have limitless energy is finally slowing down and pain is overtaking. She has bad knees and her hands swell up like balloons. She is struggling to keep up with the house and yard work which she has to do all on her own as her frail husband hates housework and easily forgets when he is asked to vacuum.

You might want to offer him a delivery service meal on your next visit. That way you have some control over the selections. Big salads, Fewer carbs. Etc.
