Truly sad that Spark America is acting like this!

This is big Beau---
I need to tell yu that the Tether that hold baby car seats in your car, works--It now holds big Beau--He cannot climb into the front seat--
What an amazing feature! --- The salesman at the dealership hooked one end of the hook at the back of the rear seat and the other end to Beau's harness----- and the salesman also showed me that I can push a switch on each of the back doors and Beau cannot open those doors to the outside, but if I get out, I can open the back doors-
I think that we can now safely carry him to the groomers, tomorrow!

This was our dinner last night-fresh corn on the cob----scallops, and asparagus---- with a mango for dessert---cooked by Himself!

And now I must tell you all that I am disgusted with Spark People--
I received an email from "Coach someone"--and all it said was , that she forget that I lived-in Canada and that whatever they were going to ask me to try out , was not going to happen now--BECAUSE I AM CANADIAN-
Now really! --- Isn't that some form of "Racial discrimination"?--
I have really "HAD IT" with SPARK ----
#1. I think it could've been put in a nicer way---
#2. I feel they have welcomed everyone before now--- so, why now are they discriminating?

I truly am not pleased with them--
There is more to life than being locked out with a group because of where we live--
There are countless people all over the world--- good people---
Are they never going to open Spark America up to the world?
My opinion of this site has deteriorated so much-
It truly is sad!
So many good people on here--- from everywhere--- but--we are now going to be separated--

To be fair, I suspect that the costs are astronomical to keep SP going, and that it costs a LOT of money to keep the platform functioning across national boundaries….. governments have their own ways of controlling what goes on, …. Now that media moguls have discovered how to monetize the internet, AND how to effect , or at least INFLUENCE the outcome that they want, governments want to get their thumbs into the pie…

To be honest, It’s astonishing that they’ve managed so well THIS far…

But I’m so sorry that they gave you a false hope…. Only to explain it away so callously… after all, the relationship between the citizens of the US and Canada is an interesting one… so many similarities! And just enough differences to have us all scratching our heads!

(I’m a Texan- we experience some of the same things with others in the US!)

I'm SO sorry for the way you were treated, Lynda! It could have gone better, that's for sure. I certainly hope they apologize. emoticon

I am disgusted with Spark! We as members helped build them up, but now the money scent has led them in a different direction and they do not care one bit about us.
We are dust on their shoes.
    I will miss your blogs.
I will miss my daily connections through Spark. It is such a big part of getting my morning started.

Oh, Lynda, I’m apologize to you on behalf of the Spark community. That was cold and heartless. It should have been done is a gentle way if done at all. I’m kind over SP. and will be closing my account in a day or two.

Sadly, there are probably thousands of non-USA based Sparkpeople members who are being "thrown out on their ear." I'm so disgusted with SP and how this changeover is being handled that I already found another calorie-counting home - MyNetDiary.

I still get emails from SP, but I stopped tracking here right after I heard about the change.

Supposedly, the tracker will be available on the new site Aug 17, with other features added shortly after that. But, by then, a lot of people will have moved on to other sites.

    I'll miss your blogs.

I am sorry to hear that you were treated rudely, what were they thinking! I will probably not go onto the new site. I have learned to eat properly, to drink my water and to maintain a daily exercise routine. I can track my food on my Fitbit app.

I was glad to hear that the harness works for Beau, and how nice to have Himself cook dinner!

I really don't comment much on blogs but read many. and yours always comes up on the feed. I realize things have to change from time to time but this really SUCKS! I will miss so many people. I guess I will try some of the other sites and meet new people. Happy living to all!!!

II too am sad that the new Spark is not international. It has to do with the time and money required for licensing their new company. emoticon

Am sad that you were treated like that by SP. I think they are going to be a very closed programme without the help of non-Americans. Will certainly miss reading your blogs come August.

I live in America and I'm angry. All the friendships we have forged just thrown out the window like dirty bath water. I do not like the new site. I think it will be a big fail

Breaks my heart that SP is excluding people from other countries. It just doesn't seem right. Glad you got Beau all hooked up so everyone will be safe when going to the vet.

This all just stinks to high heavens....if that was not one of your Mom's sayings, it should have been! LOL
Maybe it was one of my mom's? Her name was LInda too....with an I instead of a Y.
I am struggling with all of this.....I even have opened a beer...sigh...not good for the waist line.
I hate they have treated you so badly and not only that I had to come find your blog because this one was replaced by another in my daily email (it was a nice blog by brooklyn_born), but it is like since your blog was not favorable to them, it was not featured. I am going to email you at your personal email address.....I would be so sad to never hear about your Germans, your himself, your kids and grands....YOU
I am chrispylee33@yahoo.com, so you will not be wary of my email.
I think I am going to shut my page down little by little. I never blogged much but I have before and after pictures and ugh I just hate this is happening! I lost 59 pounds with Spark....people like you kept me motivated and connected in such a way. Much love!!

That switch on the door so that kids and dogs can't open the door is a good safety feature but when it accidentally got switched on, we thought the door was broke. When I took it in to be fixed, I'm sure they thought 'why can't she just read the manual?'

Like LeanJean, I'm not particularly impressed with SP wind down. I will continue to the end of the month and then move on to a different platform. I've been testing a few and i seem to have found a food diary I like

I had read a comment somewhere that the decision to include only America is likely due to the myriad of laws regarding online privacy. If every country (and sometimes regions within each country) have differing laws, it would take a lot to make sure your company is complying with all of them.

That beinf said, I'm not sure why this would be an issue for SparkAmerica if it isn't for SparkPeople... maybe SP is grandfathered and doesn't need to comply with some laws that were created after the site was established?

    Just some food for thought.

I'm so sorry for the outcome.. I had hope they would find a way to keep everyone together!

I'm glad you are now able to transport Beau safely! I bought a car seat for my little blind yorkie, guaranteed to keep her in the seat... umm..nope! Even though she was locked down tight, she still managed to turn the thing inside out and escape! She did this before I even managed to get to the end of the block and I am only the second house from the corner! That dog was DETERMINED! Gosh I miss her!

Nice dinner and well done getting your car “doggie proof”.
They could have put us much nicer than they did, shame on them.

SP has meant so much to so many all over the world and we hardly thought about the “business model” behind the scenes. In the end, it’s a business to make money and they have moved in a direction that’s more profitable. Getting in bed with health care companies means they only want “customers” who a relevant to those companies, i.e. inside the US.
I am sad to lose this community and not sure I would join these site en if I were still in the US.
(Ok, jumping off my high horse..)

I agree completely that they handled this - and treated you - very badly. From beginning to now, they have handled everything very badly. I wish they would find some guts and apologize to us all (particularly you), and try to start treating people better. The very least you deserve is a profound apology. They do claim that it is rules and regulations that are keeping non US people out of the new Spark. I don't know - I think they should at least tell us what these rules and regulations are, if that is really true.

I, like others, was hopeful that all Sparkies might move to the Spark360 when you announced that SP had invited you to a zoom call. I figured they were reaching out to you to test something. How could they not know that you were Canadian.

Glad the harness worked. You should begin your own blog, so many would follow.

Thanks for all the positive vibes. emoticon

I thought I had read somewhere that Spark has to get licensed to operate in other countries, & that they would “eventually” do that. I was hopeful that you being invited to a Zoom call meant that the licensing was moving forward more quickly. I’m bummed that it was someone who didn’t check where you lived first. I can’t imagine Sparking without your daily blogs.

As a "sister Canadian", I did have a small ember of hope when you said you'd been invited to participate in the Zoom meeting!! You HAVE to be one of the most popular Sparkies on the entire site: everybody loves your blogs, and I hope that they were going to find a way that you at least could continue!!

You MUST keep writing -- there are quite a few Sparkie refugees over at blogspot!! Still searching for a "writing home" myself . . . .

I'm so glad that harness worked for Beau so he can be safe and so can you. And I am also not very happy with Spark doing what they have done and separating us from our friends. They could have told us. I would have paid to keep this going. I know I will keep in touch with some of the friends I have made and Lynda, I hope that will be you. But the way we can all interact with each other will be lost and that is what hurts most.

It really is a shame. Why can't they explain the reason of the cut off? Why get so many people angry? I can understand if they have to figure things out, which should been before they shut their door to a lot of followers.

I am so sorry for the way you were treated today by a Spark employee. Beyond rude comes to mind came to my mind reading your blog about it. They know your blogs were very well received by so many spark people each day. They forgot that you were from Canada, someone forgot to do their homework before contacting you. I have enjoyed reading your blog for several years, wish it could continue, but August 17th is still coming to end that.
So happy that the harness looks like it will work for Beau tomorrow, that is good news and safer for him too.
