Honoring the best in others

Thursday, May 27, 2021

I will do my best to honor others and make America better by:
1, Having clarity in what I want and acting accordingly: I did some soul searching and I want to encourage people to put aside their differences and live in harmony with their family, neighbors and fellow citizens as best as possible. I will do my part and be an example to others. I believe that America is an exceptional country where anyone can prosper if they put in the effort given that they can live in peace.

2. Being the person who understands and forgives; No one, even myself can fully know the trials and tribulations of others, sometimes even their spouses! Assume that they are doing their best given their circumstances. Even if they make a mistake, let them know that you see them as a better more capable person; and, give them a suggestion and chance to make amends.

3. Being the person who has a nurturing heart; I believe those who bring out the best in others, and improve the welfare of their community, are the most blessed.

4. Being the person who listens instead of judges; Everyone at times could gain a lot of clarity by being able to discuss their concerns with another who listens without needing to judge or deprive the speaker of the ability to find her or her own solution. Instead ask questions that would allow the speakers to 1) clarify within their minds the options that they have and 2) let them know by your interest that you believe in them.

5. Being the person others can count on, and most importantly by my example, are inspired to leave still other people better off. If I help someone in need, I expect no favor in return, I remember to give others a feeling of self worth. I let the person I helped know they don’t need to pay me back. Instead, I tell them that that once they get the ability to, they can play the favor forward toward helping others in kind.

I have this vision of a community that becomes more nurturing and stable as a result of many following my own and the example of others, to provide better opportunities for all;
With a vision of communities where the opportunity for all citizens to grow and prosper is not denied by the actions or non-action of the unwise; communities that will provide an educated and confident citizenship that has faith in the well-being of their children and grandchildren, and future generations to come. And I hope we all share and build upon this vision...

Others can share in this vision
By reading stories of virtuous people who are admire, including civic leaders, both local and nationwide. Taking time to note the strengths and values that make them admirable, and following their examples as best as possible.
By ignoring the worldly impression that they as an individual am powerless to effect a significant positive change in the community or country, and acting with faith that participation in the election of politicians who best share their views, works to the benefit of all, and with faith that our example will inspire other good citizens to do their part also.
Lastly by building upon their strengths so that others can be blessed by their efforts, and so that everyone can prosper, by the help of higher powers including both God and their own inner strength.

I wish all success with all your goals especially with your goals within Sparkpeople. With your effort and help, 2021 will continue to be a very blessed year, whether or not you believe in God – and although my faith is not the best, it is strong enough for me to pray that as you had read this, it will inspire you to do your part to continue making 2021 a blessed year for you, me and others. We can achieve this if we take the time to honor the best in ourselves as well as the best in others.

    #4. Sometimes just being able to talk without someone trying to "fix" our problem is all that is necessary.
    I have a fixer friend. I wanted to tell her an anecdote, which (if she wouldn't have interrupted) would have been found to end happily. I had to continue to tell her to let me finish and not make suggestions.

    I had a best friend that died over ten years ago; I use to tell her she was color blind. She had one of the most beautiful heart and always ready to help others. We met when our kids were in elementary school at a PTA meeting. She died from lung cancer; you remind me of her. Don't let anyone put out the light of love that shine in you. GOD Bless!!!!!!
