E.Barrett Browning and My Day

This quotation by Elizabeth Barrett Browning is referenced my mom’s little book of wisdom that I’ve been working through...... BUT THERE’S MORE!
. The full quote is: “ Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God; And only he who sees takes off his shoes; The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.”
So, as we wrapped up our year long study of the book of Genesis in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) this afternoon, I referenced the quotation to describe how I had a fresh appreciation for God’s creativity and authority in the creation of the world, and a desire to be more alert to the expression of His character in perceiving the wonders around me... that I didn’t want to be guy who ignores the breathtaking significance of everything around me just so I pursue my own interests (plucking blackberries)...
And since, for our very last meeting of the year, we decided to be really bold and live dangerously after an entire year of meeting via Zoom, and we met outdoors at a park, and sat around a picnic table....... and TOOK OFF OUR MASKS!!! Our last meeting of the year was our first meeting of the year in person! It was SO GOOD! (All of us had been vaccinated)
We even hugged each other!
But back to the quote..... as I mentioned it, one by one my fellow Genesis students started pointing out things around us that demonstrated EBB’s statement that the world is FULL of illustrations of God’s handiwork, from the mimosa tree in full bloom- so gorgeous, to the white crepe Myrtle just getting started in its summer glory.... that challenge kept ringing in my mind’s eye the rest of the day, as I spotted an enormous red tail hawk sitting in the ancient live oak tree next door, and one of my home grown tomatoes has turned the ripest red when I got home...
I think I’ll print out one of these graphics of the quote and post it in a good place as a reminder.
Hope you all will consider it as well...
