Bonus Blog - Those Who Care

Sunday, May 09, 2021

Hopefully a quick few words to clarify some thoughts I wrote earlier. I DO have several very supportive friends, sisters, and my husband. my two closest friends checked in daily, sent goodies and face timed regularly. My sister sent me a fruit bouquet on my last day of radiation and my husband hid a card under my pillow as well.

So I did not want to imply I had NO support, or that what I wrote included anyone in Spark World! My spark friends here are always so supportive and helpful and generous with words.

The two people I mentioned have been friends known for a long time and who've I supported in similar ways. I think maybe a more accurate word would be HURT. I had my feelings hurt. I had some expectations that probably weren't realistic about what they could or would do - and adjusting those expectations as I move forward has been hard for me.

And, I do recognize that we all (me included) need to show some grace to others as this year has been hard for all. So on that note, I will do my best to keep grace in mind as my proceed through my weekend. Hope it's a good one and thanks AGAIN for reading.

Your husband hid a card under your pillow?! That's so sweet! Even without all the wonderful other deeds of support you mention in this blog, this detail would have brought a smile to my face and tears to my eyes!

Emotions play havoc when undergoing cancer diagnosis and treatment, everything becomes extremely personal and stressful. Sometimes those on the outside don't know how to react, how to approach, how to help or not help. I am glad that you have sought help to sort through your emotions; that will make life so much easier for yourself but also for your DH and family as they navigate the issues with you. emoticon

Dealing with cancer is tough tough tough. And some people step up (who maybe we don't expect) but other people we DO expect to be there just can't handle it for whatever reason. And yes, it hurts. I am sorry that you are feeling alone and not receiving the support you need. Please be as kind to yourself as you possibly can in every small way, every day.
