The owl and the snake

Sunday, May 02, 2021

I headed out for an afternoon walk to the local riparian area to see if I could get a picture of the owls that are nesting there. I've seen the mama owl 2 days and saw the babies in the nest once.

When I got there I was able to see the babies.

It's not a great picture, but you can see them. I looked around for the mama, but she was either well hidden or off somewhere else.

I continued on the path, and came across this:

sunning itself on the trail. I hopped over it and continued on my walk.

There are lots of birds and other creatures in this park, I saw vultures, hawks and crows soaring overhead, rabbits and squirrel, lizards and the occasional snake as well. We are starting to see wildflowers blooming too, it's a lovely place when the desert starts to bloom!

Thanks for sharing your adventures. I can definitely see the baby owls. They're so fluffy.

Gopher snake? It looks quite large and quite comfortable there sunning itself in the path. Is is that time of year!

Sounds like you had a wonderul walk.

I've been seeing the lizards running our back fence and retaining walls along with the squirrels. Haven't seen a snake in the yard for years. I actually miss them. Most of them were entirely harmless. I realize that I'm odd.

We haven't seen frogs or salamanders in years either.
