I definitely want to start this blog by saying THANK YOU for the unbelievable support you all showed me over the past few weeks while our dog was sick and right after we lost him. I was really struggling and the comments and goodies that I received reminded me that I'm not alone and to be kind to myself. I didn't get a chance to thank you all individually, but every one of you is a blessing.
Overall, I'm feeling better. I'm dealing with this loss better than that of our cat, probably because our dog was elderly so it wasn't as much of a shock. I've also been a bit busy and it's been keeping me distracted. I'm starting grad school in the fall and registration for fall classes is next week. I've been meeting with my advisors and working on a schedule. I'm really excited to start and feeling hopeful about the future!
This past Tuesday I rolled my ankle while leaving for work. Of course I never get hurt when I'm hiking or anything, but I fall just stepping off my porch. I guess it's because I was not paying attention. I just landed on my foot wrong and fell sideways. It seems like a light sprain; it's been stiff and sore. I've been taking it easy, icing it, and wrapping it when I'm going to be on my feet for a while. Hopefully it will heal easily and I won't have to make a doctor trip. It's actually feeling considerably better this morning, so hopefully it stays that way throughout the day.
Saturday I definitely ate a bunch of food I wouldn't normally. I have celiac disease and that really limits where and what I can eat while dining out. My husband and I decided to travel a little over an hour away over the weekend to check out a state park. We took a nice (and slow because of my ankle) 3 mile hike. Then we were looking for a nearby restaurant for lunch and I found a completely gluten free Italian restaurant! This is a big deal. They make gluten free onion rings, mozzarella sticks, pasta, pizza, cannolis, and much more. I ate onion rings for the first time in 4+ years. Needless to say, I ate way more than I normally would. My husband and I ordered a bunch of different things and split them. We ate so much that we skipped dinner! This is definitely not something I want to get into the habit of, but I don't consider myself to be on a diet. This is a lifestyle change and I have room in that to have something special sometimes. I don't lose weight fast this way, but I'm officially down 25 lbs. over the past year and I haven't felt deprived in any way. And I've actually been feeling rather slim over the past couple days!
