April 16, 2021 WE ALL MESS UP

If we say we never mess up in life, we are lying to ourselves. We all make mistakes and wrong decisions. We all have a past with regrets and may still feel guilty about things we have done or said. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone is tempted to do wrong. That is why we shouldn’t be quick to judge the wrong actions of others. We need to remember we are not any better at being perfect than anyone else.

The good thing about messing up is we know God loves us despite our hang ups in life. He is compassionate and understands we sometimes make wrong choices. He sent His Son to be our role model so Jesus would understand how it feels to be tempted, discouraged and forsaken. Yet, even though Jesus was tempted, He stood strong in the word of God and resisted the devil remembering the compassion of God and how God could help Him do what is right.

God wants to help us as well. He loves us unconditionally and compassionately. He knows we will be tempted and tested in this life. He gave us Jesus to follow as an example. He gave us His word to use to fight off the devil. He gave us His angels to guard and protect us. He has given us many gifts that we sometimes don’t use when we are tempted. Let’s remember God the next time we have a hard choice to make and use His word to help us resist temptations.

Hebrews 4:15-16 “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (NLT)

1. Write what you can do to prepare for temptations.
2. List what God says to do in His word.
3. Know God wants to help you when you are tempted.
4. Thank God for His help and His forgiveness of sins.

Dear Lord, we know we all have issues and things we have done in the past that we are not proud of. We have given into temptations time and time again without relying on You and Your word to help us. We pray, going forward, You will help us when we are tempted to do what Jesus did and resist the devil with Your word. We pray for strength to do Your will even when it is not popular nor convenient. Help us, Lord, with the hard choices in life so we can live a life that is pleasing to You. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

1 Corinthians 10:13 “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (NLT)

Mark 1:12-13 “Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” (NLT)

Hebrews 2:17-18 “Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.” (NLT)

Matthew 26:41 “Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” (NLT)
