Correspondence Trouble Shooting

Thursday, April 15, 2021

In times of upheavals of life, like what my family is going through as my sweet mother hovers on the brink of death, you just have to let people that you know and love just what is going on, and so we have been trying to think of all my mother’s friends who need to be notified of her situation...

In some cases we’ve had to raid her email files to find addresses, and that’s what I did to find an old friend of my mother’s ... he was a graduate student here in Houston and my mom became his “American Mama” for the time he was here, and when he returned to Japan and got married, he paid her way to come and stay for a couple of weeks for all the festivities.... he’s a big-time international businessman now, but he has always sent her flowers on Mother’s Day and her birthday, and he has made several trips to bring his children and introduce them to her...

It has been a sweet relationship for several decades, and we wanted to let him know about his “Mama Lois”.... I composed the long letter as a labor of love, but when it came time to email it, it wouldn’t go through.... the computer kept giving me the message that it wasn’t a valid address!!! I tried it twice more, knowing that I was looking at an email address that had worked only a few months ago.....

I discovered that my mind was pretending to auto-correct it

The address I THOUGHT was so-and-so@yahoo.com.jp, with the jp standing for Japan, was ACTUALLY. so-and-so@yahoo.co.jp. With NO “M” for “com”... just .co.jp

It was such a relief! And it is a reminder that Sometimes it is easy to give up, when the solution is very VERY close at hand..... soooooo Never give up! Never, ever EVER give up!

And I am so glad to get that letter off! He was a special person to my mom, and he would be one that she would want to be told about her “graduation”... I can’t do much for her right now, but this, THIS I could do!

One day at a time!

Nothing like the present to express your love for those who are precious to you. This way, you cannot say, “I should have… or I could have.”

What a nice relationship your mom had with that businessman who was so thoughtful and remembered her on Mother’s Day and her birthday. These kind gestures have great meaning to her. I’m happy that you were able to send him a message about your mom. It’s funny how one little alphabet can make a big difference. I’m glad that you were persistent and found what was wrong with the address.

Take care and sending loads of prayers from Kauai.

I understand having to notify someone in another country. My parents had an exchange student from Brazil after I left for college. Marcos has kept in contact with mom and 2 of my brothers. He was notified when dad passed and when one brother also passed. The 2 guys still talk on the internet and FB. I saw a picture of him just a couple days ago. So glad you reached out to him.
