We refer to the death of our soldiers as giving the ultimate sacrifice for their country, but their sacrifice was nowhere near the one given this day on a cross. Wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, chastised for our peace, whipped for our healing, despised and rejected, carried our sorrows, bore our griefs, oppressed, afflicted, crucified -- all for the joy set before Him (see Isaiah 53:3-7 and Hebrews 12:2), which was to see us delivered of sin. Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission for sin (Hebrews 9:22b).
And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart (Jeremiah 24:7 KJV). Hold nothing back. Give Him your heart. Ask Him to cleanse you with His blood and wash away all your sins. Accept His sacrifice gladly and you will be glad you did. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
