Yesterday I went for a workshop about all the new whizz-bang equipment at the new campus of the school where I worked as a full-time teacher until March 31st. From yesterday, I have become a part-timer. Tomorrow I’m going to suss out my classrooms and check that I have my whizz-bang equipment in place - blackboard, chalk and photocopier.
Before the workshop, I met someone I worked and got along well with. He introduced me to the campus and the surrounding area, and we had a good lunch. The old campus was in a remote part of the suburbs, but the new campus is in a lively part of town, and WOW! It’s all shiny and elegant. I walked back to the station with a new part-timer - very nice.
In fact it was wonderful to get out in this restricted time and face new challenges. When I saw that the pay was not going to be stellar, I wondered if I should have gone into complete retirement, but yesterday, I felt so energized finding myself in a brand new work environment that it felt like the right decision. It will be good to continue to have two focuses in my life, home and work.
