Update: Debt, Illness, Books

Saturday, March 13, 2021

A quick update:

Debt: From January 1, 2021 to March 1, 2021, my total debt load has decreased by $735.26.

This means, in the first quarter of 2021, I paid off $735 worth of debt. Not too shabby. My goal to pay off my Wells Fargo card by 3/15 hit a snag, but it'll be paid off by April 1st. After that, I'm targeting another student loan, and then switching gears and will be focusing on paying down the one credit card with the highest interest rate, as it's the balance that's seen the least amount of change even if I pay a bit more than the minimum. Mixing it up! This is true for financial weight loss as well as body weight loss. Gotta change it up when that plateau hits!

Illness: I received my first dose of the Moderna covid-19 vaccine on Friday, February 26th. Four days later I was knocked on my butt with a terrible sinus infection. The doctor said, "I honestly don't know how you're breathing at all with your sinuses so inflamed." I missed five days of work. I'm on an antibiotic and a crazy nasal spray I've never heard of. Whether the two are related or not, I'm hesitant on the second dose, as I don't need to be knocked down again. The good news: This is the first time since I got the vaccine that I feel NORMAL again. I won't push it though. But it's so nice to wake up early, on my own, and get the day started.

Books: I have been reading more than I have in the last 5 years. I am challenging myself to read 24 books (at least) this year, and I'm on to #5 of the year already. So far, I've read the following:

1. Teasing Secrets from the Dead by Emily Craig

2. The Education of a Coroner: Lessons in Investigating Death by John Bateson

3. The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of those who Survived the Great American Dustbowl by Timothy Egan

4, The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Eric Larson

I'm really into history, forensic science, anatomy, and entomology. I also like archeology and anthropology. I'm not a huge fan of fiction, though I do read it from time to time. If anyone is interested in the books above, or others I've read, you can find me on GoodReads as kimmay_lou

That's about all I have going on right now. I'm hoping the spring weather lasts so I can get out for walks and start to work on this chubby-bubby body of mine. I hope everyone is doing well. Happy weekend!
