Week 1: Progress Report, down 2 lbs - YAY
Sunday, January 10, 2021
This has been my first real non-foo-foo, no-nonsense, get-back-to-it week. And I finished with a 2 lb loss (for a grand total of 3.2 lbs lost). WOOT WOOT. Ok, so it's not quite the initial 7 lb drop that I was hoping for after my first truly dedicated week, but it was a nice healthy weight loss drop without doing anything completely drastic. And this week felt sustainable to me, which is also great. I took front and side photos this week and measurements - and plan to repeat those on a monthly basis, to help track my progress.
I'm liking the foods on the bistroMD plan. I'd decided to do this plan for my first 12 weeks to help reset my metabolism and to take the food thought process completely off the table while I work on establishing some other linked healthy habits. Furthermore, the protein content is much higher than what I've been doing in the past - and I think this is what's helped me feel quite a bit more "satisfied" after eating meals.
I also bought a life planner for this year. I'm juggling quite a few activities and goals in the initial months of this year, and wanted an easy way to track and keep tabs on all these things. First, I should say that I'm not naturally a planner type of person, so it's been an adjustment. BUT, I'm finding I like the little checkboxes to see that I'm on track. It's also been helpful to write up lots of other goals I am interested in obtaining, but then to prioritize which ones are the most pertinent. So currently my health goals are number 1. Number 2 is finishing my real estate license. I've always been interested in real estate, not so much to become a realtor (at least not right now), but just to know more about real estate. Due to the pandemic, I learned they've moved all the classes online and you can work at your own pace - something that fits much better with my hectic work schedule - so I jumped on the chance to get licensed. This has actually been great two-fold, because I am working on this at night after I get home from work, which keeps me busy and engaged in the evenings - and less likely to get bored and go overboard with snacks, etc.
I've got a goal of at least 10 mins of exercise everyday - which really my goal is 30 mins, but if I don't feel like doing anything then I give myself the 10 minute safety net. The last 6 days I've done at least 30 mins daily - mostly just walking on my treadmill and some body weight exercises on two days. I plan to go for a walk today once it warms up a bit. I'm mostly interested now to try and set up the habit. So far, so good.
Goals for this next week:
Lose 1-2 lbs
Exercise at least 10 mins each day
Drink 6-8 cups of water daily
Continue habit exchanges (currently working on watching the news via treadmill, rather than the couch after work).
Spend more time thinking about my "Why".
