Grandkids distance learning

Tuesday, November 17, 2020

On Monday night, the VB school board decided to shut down schools until after Thanksgiving. They are doing distance learning again.

We are keeping the older 2 and I will work their schedule in around my work schedule so that their parents don't have to worry about taking time off or the extra costs of having them at home.

They will be here tonight. I'll sit down with them and plan their meals for the next few days and then order the food and have it delivered. I'll also have my son help me get their laptops set up and make sure they can get on line and then have any supplies that they need. I keep lots of supplies around so they should be fine.

Hubby and I spent about 20-30 minutes setting up two desks in our office for them (his and a spare he has for his models). Thankfully, he is back in the office most days. We then had to clean up the spare bedroom enough for them to have spots to sleep. We are still in the process of re-organizing the house. Other projects keep coming up so that room gets put off. I also set up a steamer in there since they seem to have issues at night with dry air.

My son is a 911 operator and his wife is a nurse. They get paid once a month and then budget for the month. Having the kids home would have completely messed the budget up for them. Hubby and I are fortunate to get paid bi-weekly and on opposite weeks so it is like we get paid weekly. We also have a decent savings account and some spare funds so we are good with having the kids here.

I notified my work and they are very understanding that I will be taking more breaks than normal to help the kids out. The 7 year old has learning disabilities so that is an extra challenge with distance learning. I also have plenty of vacation and had planned some time off next week for Thanksgiving.

I hope that they will be able to go back after Thanksgiving. If not, my daughter can also help some which is good because I have some doctor appointments in December.

Stay safe everyone. emoticon emoticon emoticon
