Finger and Mind Exercise!!!

Sunday, November 08, 2020

My exercise has been mainly based on instrument playing: strings / woodwinds / piano. I find after breaking my wrist almost 2 years ago if I let one or two days go without practicing in between my online music lessons, my left hand gets very stiff.

This can also happen to the rest of our bones, we need to keep moving as we get older. With Covid, I have not been walking at the park as I used to, but I try to at least stretch my legs by walking safely around my city block. Not much but something. My goal is set for 9,XXX steps but this week I have been under the weather and have not reached my goal one time. That's ok, the body said no!!! I was afraid that I might have Covid, but I usually get sick this time of year, so I'm playing it out. emoticon

Working in my yard and buttery garden is another finger / hand exercise (all body exercise really!) and most important it's good for my mind and soul with these so troubling days.

So back to my finger exercise. I am teaching on line on and on Outschool to keep those fingers moving since I have ceased teaching in person since March due to Covit and since I live alone, that little interaction with parents and students gives me something to prepare for, to look forward to and to get dressed for!!! lol

Our weather here is beautiful - no Winter here, except when you send it my way from up North!! I wish it was safe to venture out but until then I will do what I like best, Music and Nature, not to mention taken care of all my pets (that's 500 steps in the morning and 500 or so in the evening!!!)

What exercise (besides exercise equipment) do you do during these troubling times?

It is amazing how our body lets us know when we need to take a slower approach to doing exercise. Hope your feeling better, and don't have Covid 19.

I do hope that you are not fighting the virus. I know you are miserable and as you have said, this is your time of yr. You have come up with good forms of exercise. I am kind of in the same boat that we have so much around us, I tend to stay in and about the house. Now with the weather doing a rapid turn around from really nice and records high, mother nature is playing another game of cold and snow! Dropping from the 70's to the 30's in 2 days. Oh well, it's winter or Nov.

Yes age is a "set back" of sorts. I now have an arthritic knee and hip and I must keep moving as well. I have an exercise bike and do mild walking aerobics and tai chi in my living room. I want to walk on the Lema Ranch Trail but the weather and schedules are not permitting. That is safe as long as you wear a mask.

I move as much as I can without being around too many folks. I have gone back to an exercise class but we stay 6+ feet apart, only 8 students and sanitizing everything we do use before and after touching them. We are not using the machines and I take my own hand weights and have my own personal mat for stretching/flexibility day. We always have a few minutes of prayer time after class but no touching (holding hands) at all. The good part is that we are having a little bit of social time and that does help lift my spirits. Yes, I do get to see some of my family and great grand babies but no hugging—just looking. Stay positive and keep moving so we don’t stiffen up. emoticon

How did I guess that you would be the first to respond Gloria!!!! Hope your doing well.

Thank you for your lovely comments on my yard and animals!

I love love your temps at 70 well - 60 is better!!! This back and forth on the weather takes a toll on the migraines. We can have all 4 seasons in one week!!! I think of you when it's Fall!!!!

Back to normal? Still a dark tunnel!!! But our norm has changed! Face covering and isolation.

emoticon a Virtual true hug for you!!!!

Good to see you blogging, Marcy. It's been a while. I see your many beautiful pictures on face book and always enjoy looking at them. You have a lovely yard and a way with animals.

Our weather up here in the north, lol, is gorgeous! Sunny, bright days with temps reaching 70 but it isn't going to last, temps will be going down mid-week.

I miss seeing all my family in person and miss the many hugs I used to get. But this virus shouldn't last forever, right? Seems things are not going to get back to the normal we were used to but once we find a working vaccine for the virus, we can at least keep it at bay and get some normalcy back in our days.
