Life is funny how it throws you curveballs. Releasing weight has felt remarkable. However, a competitive spirit sometimes needs to be tempered a little.

Oh, by the way, I’m a 60 year-old grandma! Former collegiate runner.

August 27 - Case in point, my overambitious, Navy Seal idea, self-imposed 24 hour workout challenge (1 hour workout every 4 hours) Sore legs - completed, check mark.

September 4 - Followed by a virtual 10k treadmill race. Threw in a few seconds at 6:40 per mile pace. Mistake. My knee said.

September 6 - Followed by 6 mile run on roads.

September 8 - Followed by another 6 miles on roads. Hey, let’s throw in 2 miles faster pace. Yikes, my knee was definitely not happy. Finished my run. Limped back to car.

Results: Torn meniscus, MCL strain, severe water on knee and knee cap off center. Tremendous pain.

For my two steps forward: One cortisone injection and physical therapy begins next Tuesday. Surgery?

My first attempt to run again for just a few minutes this Sunday. Trust me, I will add more Yoga and cross training to my future running endeavors.

Anyone else have trouble remembering your age?

    A common problem (I'm 67). I have to be very careful when I re-start training because my mind still thinks I can do what I did five years ago... but my body isn't "trained up" and needs the gradual increase that served it well in 2011!
