Begin at the beginning

After a long hiatus (for mostly medical reasons), I am back on Spark People. And it is time to begin again. No judgement, no guilt, just begin.

I have a new medical hurdle in my life, gastroparesis (GP). It is also referred to as a delayed emptying of the stomach. It causes discomfort, burping, farting, vomiting as well as a host of other medical issues, especially since I am diabetic.

I have joined the 5% Fall weight loss challenge on the Rowdy Rebels to help combat this. The main reason for joining is the accountability to TRACK what I am eating drinking. Everything I have found so far is that diet is the key to GP. What the doctor sent me about it was pretty basic, and seems to contradict everything I have worked for in the past four years (going more clean eating) and I am really struggling. I even started a new Spark Team for Gastroparesis. As long as I am there by myself, I will use it as a place to post the research I find to help others along the way.

As a bonus, maybe I'll lose some weight this fall too. It would be a wonderful side effect, but I am really looking to get my digestive track happier. And in this horrible age of COVID, have a little more interaction.

    I can relate even though I don't have GP. Since my latest surgery, I burp and fart more in one day than I used to in a month. I do NOT want to accept this as my new normal, even though the doc says I should. Glad to see you're rebeling with us again.

    Welcome Back! I think the tracking on Spark will help a lot particularly if you track distress in GI along side so that you begin to realize which foods cause greater distress. I've been trying to do this with inflammation as it is my belief that body inflammation is a root cause of many ailments. Even though I clearly see how junk and sweets make my body feel bad, I've yet to figure out how to rid myself of craving them anyway.

    Welcome back! I, too, like to "cure" as much as possible through diet (and appropriate exercise, of course). And finding a combination that boosts our digestive harmony, will no doubt also boost our resistance to COVID-19 (or -20).

    Wonderful to see you back on Spark! Great that you are seeking healthy ways to eat to overcome this gastric distress! Praying all goes well with Rowdy Rebels in the Fall Challenge. I am still with the Teddy Bears and love the challenges. emoticon
