The Trends Today

I'm not a fad dieter by any means.
But as I have been doing this weight loss thing for ... umm 40 plus years, I enter my current effort with tons of information that I am told is No Longer True!
Generally, when i hear of a new trend, it goes in one ear and out the other for me. Inside I say, "Oh yeah? Just wait. In 5-10 years, they'll be saying the opposite."
Is fat good or bad? Are carbs still the devil? How about eggs - will they kill you or make you stronger? Are we counting Points, Carbs, Sugars, Calories, or Unicorns?
Is it all about the combination of foods, the time of day we eat, the number of hours we don't eat, our blood types, our metabolism, our intuition? All or None of the Above? It's mind-boggling.
My dear mother, God rest her soul, "took her exercise" every day of the world first thing when she got out of bed. About half were standing and the other half were floor exercises. Some of those exercises have fallen out of favor. Some have seen a resurgence in popularity. Some, like sit-ups, have been modified many times over, but remain in the catalog of good things to do for your body. Momma also smoked for about 40 years of her life, so none of the rest matters all that much. She died at 65.
I think we can all agree on that at least -- smoking is not good for you.
But the rest? Oh my gosh! So much noise - both inside me and all around me - and I have no idea who to listen to, who to trust. And I think I'm no longer talking just about weight loss trends, but about everything we are fed (pun intended) today. All the information is at our finger tips, but it is harder than ever before to know anything for sure.
The world is a messy, imperfect place. But I suppose that will be okay, since I'm messy and imperfect too. Thank God for grace.
