Learning Our ‘Whys’ for Weight Loss

Sunday, August 30, 2020

Our whys are one of the most powerful aspects of our journey. Without them, there is no desire to begin a journey. With them, you develop of a clear vision of what it is you want, that’s the first step. Then there is step 2, which is manifesting your whys by writing them down. Step 3, you figure out a plan to put your whys into effect so you can live up to them. Then comes the results of all 3 steps... success.

Yes, most of us have already discovered our whys... but how often do we go back and review them? Probably not enough as we should. Sometimes life happens and we forget, but we must not forget. We can use our whys we’ve already created for ourselves in the past and use them as a stepping stone to stay focused in the present.

A lot of us have had, or have now psychological pain from weight gain. There’s a way to heal that pain by turning it into power, and the way to do that is by quietly taking a moment to yourself and ask yourself, “Why do I want this?” And, “How will this affect my life if I achieve this?” Listen to what you have to say, and let your whys guide you.

What are my whys, you may be wondering?

1) I want to keep feeling good about myself and way I look
2) I want to be keep being able to wear and buy clothes I like
3) I want to be healthy
4) I want to keep walking comfortably without my thighs rubbing together

...and more!

What are YOUR whys?

I can’t wait to see what SOUTHERNJAVA wrote! Thank you for inspiring me to write this blog, Kristi!

I’ve reread it, Ally; such essential questions to ask, indeed!
Thanks for writing such a beautiful BLOG, such a psychological one!
    My whys?
I need to get healthy - my BP, my prediabetes, I need to, and I want to.
Sometimes I forget these whys and slide into emotional eating or out of laziness, I would call it... LOL Another reason is I want to feel lighter and
more energized, want to be able to move with ease and of course, the last
why is = I would like to like my image in the mirror, and it should be
    ‘in shape.’

Thanks for your encouragement and your comments during my bad times
when I was nursing my broken wrist. Much appreciated. I liked your
new Easter picture. Just keep ‘flowering’ and stay beautiful. :)

Such an important question, as you stated. Asking regularly ‘why’ helps to stay on track! You did a great job on this, thanks! emoticon

I have lots of "Whys"..sometimes they don't always translate into me putting forth the effort I need to do but I never give up so that is my greatest strength.

I do need to start a list. I am 71 and I want to be able to spend my coming years doing the things I couldnt do because I was too big or to slow or just not wanting to cause others not to have fun while waiting for me. You are right it is mybtime to spread my wings again.

I have my list up & see it almost daily. It hasn't changed very much, since I started SPeople, March 16, 2012! I LOVE the feeling of being able to do what ever I want, because I am healthier! I prayed for an answer to my struggle, & 2 hours later, Spark People appeared in a magazine! I am SO happy to have found it & all of my 'friends'. STIULLSPARKLEIGH is right, We ARE the leading ladies in our lives! emoticon

Love your blog, Ally! It’s very important to know our whys and keep them at the forefront of our journey!
I love your list of whys.

    For me it’s very simple:
I want to stay healthy and live as long as possible to care for my daughter.
    And
I want to be proud of and love the way I look as I get older.

    Thanks for sharing.

Love your list Ally! I do believe it is important to review our "whys" every now and then.

For me they have changed as I am aging. My dad had heart disease which eventually took him and my mom had Alzheimer's so those staying healthy and fit is important to me to combat disease.
