Doing the best I can, while caring for my mother-in-law in Hospice.
Friday, July 31, 2020
It has been a real struggle but done with love, she is sundowning so she is up from close to midnight until 8 in the morning. We have her in Hospice here in the house, but a majority of all the care is still with us. It has affected our sleep, energy, and eating habits because we are so exhausted to make dinners often.
She has a faulty heart valve, and the edema is taking over since she can no longer walk. It pains me to see a once vibrant 87-year-old woman, take a turn this year for the worse. It started in January 2020 with pneumonia and a fall in the hallway (she was still walking then). Since then, Coronavirus has been plaguing the earth, thank God none of us are affected. We sterilize as much as we can because her health is comprised.
We love her so much, she is the center of a very large family 6 kids and more grandkids and great-grandkids than you can count. Each day she loses more and more energy and doesn't want to eat most days, and occasionally drink. She will drink a nightly Boost, for that I am grateful. We need to face the fact that one day she will be gone, I have had loved ones pass away but never lived with someone who is active in the stages of Hospice and soon will be passing away.
I am trying my best to take care of myself, my husband and I made a commitment 3 days ago to diet together and so far so good, I have been trying really hard to only eat healthy food, etc. Trying to hang in there emotionally because she needs all three of us that live with her. It takes all of us to take care of her basic needs day and night.
Her name is Milagros, she is an amazing woman, she really needs prayer and well wishes.
Thank you all for everything xoxox - Michelle
