Stress equals elevated blood sugar!

Friday, July 17, 2020

Today has been a high-stress day. Up until recently I was wondering why I sometimes feel physically ill after a stressful meeting or work incident. I have religiously take my blood sugar 3 times a day for 5 days. And after a stressful morning or afternoon my blood sugar goes up 20 to 30 points! Funny. I have not read or heard of this elsewhere. It might be coincidental, but it doesn't seem to be. Just a one more reason why I need to not let my job get to me.

I can confirm this observation. I also find that my blood sugars jump when I do a decent workout for 20 minutes or more. My endocrinologist suggested that the 'stress' of working out might be the trigger. Practice deep breathing (which can be done anywhere at any time, even in a stressful meeting) or meditation.
