I'm Back (again)

It’s been over 6 months since I’ve been active on SP and decided to check in today. I’ve really been disappointed with myself lately, in terms of taking care of my health. As some of you know, I had breast cancer surgery last fall followed by radiation, which thankfully went well. It did leave me fairly fatigued, and the medication I’m on is causing some side-effects that are disrupting my sleep patterns. All in all, though, I’ve very lucky that the surgery was successful, and my prognosis is excellent.

However, I’ve allowed all of that to side-track my self-care in terms of diet and exercise and have gained too much weight again. When I joined SP back in 2012, I found the tools I needed to lose 72 pounds. Sadly, it has slowly returned over the last 8 years, although I’m still a few pounds short of where I started. My motivation for turning things around is different now, though, than it was then. Though it would be great to get back into a size 6, I don’t think it’s very important (and maybe not even possible) for me now. What I really need to do is revamp my habits so that they are healthier. I do need to lose some weight, definitely, but more importantly, I need to take better care of myself in general.

All that leaves me wondering what tools I’m going to need for this phase of my life. I don’t know whether the obsessive food tracking I did way back when is really where I need to put my energies. I’m looking for new tools that will focus more on using food as medicine and improving my health. Whether I’ll find that here still remains to be seen. However, I do know that I’ll be able to reconnect with old friends here and maybe meet some new ones. And that is enough to make me very happy to be back.
