Where do you look when you run?

Sunday, April 26, 2020

Today I had a nice bike-run-bike combo.

I rode to park Cinquantenaire, which is a 15 min ride, mostly uphill. It is a nice park in the city centre, everybody likes to run there. I go there mostly for motivation, to see other people doing exercise.
Then I ran a 5K + 2K.
And roll back home.

At mid time of running, I noticed that I started to point my sight like this:

As I became aware of it, I decided to change it to point my eyes to the distance:

In winter, it is not so comfortable to bike+run, as biking needs much more layers to keep me warm than running.
In the summer, it is easier, I just put on a cheap pullover, which I am not afraid that people would steal when I leave it there.

I'm the same, I notice myself looking down so I make adjustments to roll my shoulders back and look ahead. It does help to look where I'm going instead of slowly hunching over as I start to focus on the ground.

I try to keep a cone of site... a little to the right, center and a little to the left to see what's up ahead, whether something on the ground I need to watch for or coming from the sides.

    Beautiful photos!

(walking/hiking) a combo of looking down for rattlesnakes and doggie-doo, and looking up at the scenery, and into the distance at views :)

I don't run, but I do walk. I used to look at the ground in front of me, u til I started walking on roads, and learned to look up to watch for drivers that were not seeing me. Took me a while to train myself to look up, but now it is natural. :(
