Is it Possible I'm Weighing at the Wrong Times??

Saturday, April 18, 2020

I don't mean to sound dumb... but... something is so strange here, and now it has me wondering - Is it possible that I'm weighing at the wrong time of the day??

So... if you've read my previous blogs, you know that I've been a little frustrated with being stuck at 215 for the past couple to few weeks... and how I thought I had lost and then it appeared that I had gained; etc. Well... now, here is my predicament.... I've been weighing each morning right after I get out of bed, take the dogs out and as my Keurig is making my coffee, I step on the scale. EVERY SINGLE morning for the past 2 to maybe 3 weeks... it has read anywhere from 215.2 to 215.6 (including this morning). Well... I just came inside ???? I'm so confused.... but then... this reminded me of one day last week (when I "thought" I had lost weight)... I had forgotten to step on the scale that morning while my coffee was making and didn't step on it until I came inside from working (probably around 1pm) and the scale read 213.2 - Can you see where my confusion is coming in to play?

Now, I'm wondering... do I REALLY weigh 212.2?? Or do I really weigh 215.6 ?? Have I been upset and frustrated all this time, because I'm weighing at the "wrong" time? Is that even possible? WHY am I getting 2 different weights??? Can someone please clarify this for me, PLEASE.

Thanks in Advance!

In my opinion, the main thing is to be consistent with the time and circumstances of when you weigh.
It is true that you could weigh less for some reason as the day progressed but it is hard to make your circumstances consistent. If you weigh yourself first thing in the morning with no clothes on, after you have gone to the bathroom, and before you eat or drink anything you will at least know you have an empty stomach. I have on occasion weighed myself later in the day after movement, food, more bathroom trips. I had thought that I would weigh more since I had food in my stomach. But no, many times I weighed less. Maybe we get rid of water that we retain during the night? That is my theory anyway. But........the main idea is to be consistent so you can see if you have lost anything. It seems to me easiest to control all the variables first thing in the morning. I guess the only other option would be to pick another time of the day and stick with that. You could do 5:00 PM...before your evening meal (no clothes, bathroom first). As far as your "true weight" ....it varies. Maybe it is more valid to think of your true weight as being in a range. If you like what you weigh at 5:00 PM rather than 6:00 AM then go with that! Personally, I find it a little inconvenient to undress and dress for the only purpose of weighing myself during the middle of the day. But you do you !!
But if you are trying to figure out whether or not you have lost weight you need to stay with the same time each time you weigh......don't switch it around from weigh-in to weigh-in.
