-Out -trying to "bring home the bacon-"-----

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

This AM., I ventured out to the grocery---with an N95 mask-- (or something like that!)--over my nose and mouth.
Have any of you ever worn one of these?
It is very difficult to breathe through this mask---
Himself says, "because you are breathing thru a filter."

This was the line-up outside the grocery---
When I finally entered the store, they handed me a cart, and told me to wash my hands at a special sink they had set up---
I noticed , as I was putting on the plastic gloves thy told me to wear, that they were not telling very many people after me, to do all this--
-I was wondering , with this strange mask on, did they think I had the virus?
Anyway, I like rules--I feel more protected----
I managed to get most of everything we needed---mostly fresh fruits-

And you know what?---People had shorts on---spring sweaters--- NO MORE PARKAS----
Spring has arrived in the north!

My daughter sent me this---I thought it "sorta" funny, altho I'm not laughing as much as I used to
I did come back home to find that no German (as in dogs) had been out--no vacuuming had been done--- the kitchen looked just like I left it---
Now I'm not complaining, (well--sorta!)--- but-----doncha think that the man of the house just might've --well--sorta-----DONE SOMETHING?
-and did I say anything---like complain to him?
Lord love a Duck eh! -----
YES-------A MILLION TIMES "YES"---

I told him it's tough being out in the Covid 19 virus---wearing a mask--- fighting the germs---
in not so nice a way---

And----Himself --sorta- said--"You sound like your Mom!"

Many of our stores have early morning senior only hours. I have been 2 times, using gloves and wipes. When I got home, I opened the back of my car, took each item from the bag, wiped with a Clorox wipe and put in a sanitized clothes basket. I wiped each item before taking it into the house. I am really going by the rules that have been put out for us.My daughter was upset I went to the store. She wanted to bring me groceries but it is over 2 hrs to get here, turn around and head back. I told her I would not go into the store again. We can order online and pick up at the store and one store will deliver to your home after placing the order. We really have got to STAY HOME unless absolutely necessary.

No masks to be had here in Florida so I went online to find how to make one without sewing. Got bandanas yesterday and will work with those.

    Stay safe.

I wish I'd gone out in a mask yesterday. Because even though my govt thinks they aren't needed, I think people who just don't THINK need a visual reminder. Too many people getting way too close, and one person came up behind me (scared the daylights outta me) and tried to fit in the 2 inches between me and my cart and the aisle shelves. I was doing my best to keep to the side but so many people were right down the middle, and the one that scared me gave me a bigger scare. She TOUCHED my shoulder. A few weeks ago that act would have been seen as a friendly thing, but not now. She really shook me up.

I'm a quiet lady, but if behaviour like that keeps up, I may just find I have a voice!

Most of the stores by us have early hours for seniors or those with compromised immune systems. I went to that one two weeks ago and there were 5 times more people there than there were usually. So I went Friday about 9:30am and there weren't too many people there.

The hardest part of grocery shopping now is disinfecting all the boxes and bags before they come into the house. I don't know about where you live, but here the men spit...alot. So I make sure to disinfect my shoes and bleach the bottoms. Lots of extra work to stay healthy, but my family and I are worth it.

Hang in the with Himself. There are days, and there are days. lol.

I haven't been in any kind of store in more than 4 weeks. I always have cupboards well stocked and even though I got rid of chest freezer I have enough in refrigerator freezer for us two old folks, even though we are good eaters. If we run out of fresh fruit I mix canned ones that are packed in own juice. This is time to really be creative and make meatless meals. I'm fortunate that DH likes almost anything I prepare. I will need milk this week and friend will get it for us. Our daughter, former infectious disease nurse, keeps very close tabs on us from 600 miles away and says to stay OUT of grocery stores. We'll manage.
And there is nothing wrong with eating canned vegetables - especially No Salt ones.

I picked up the groceries Friday that I ordered the previous Friday on line. All I had to do was pull up in a numbered parking space, call the store on my cell and tell them I was there. A young man brought them out put them in the trunk and handed me my receipt since I put my debit card number on line when I placed my order. It worked good but they are so backed up because everyone is doing it that way so by the time you pick up your order, you already have a shopping list of stuff you need. Lynda, be careful shopping when there is a crowd. We have special week day hours designated just for seniors and people whose immune systems are compromised. I'm trying to stay out of stores all together because I'm afraid.

My husband went to the grocery store this morning wearing his mask. He said there weren't many people in the store and he was able to find everything he needed. I haven't been in a grocery store for over a week. My husband went to a couple of stores during senior hour and said he would never do that again. There were huge crowds of seniors shopping. I'm glad you were able to get what you needed.

We had our snow storm, ice etc. so it is melting again. Still a bit cool but clear blue sky.I started off being busy today and kind of fizzled out except my walking inside. I don't go anywhere but in the yard or walking the dogs. If we see anybody we all might wave or say a few words but keep our distance. Back to 50 degrees tomorrow. emoticon emoticon Keep well and busy. emoticon I keep hoping for an icon with a bigger dog to walk.

My husband was like that when we first got married but I “trained” him right. When he retired he would mop, clean, wash dishes and do the laundry when I went to exercise class or attended other groups that I am a member of. Lynda, you may have to put Himself in training if he is going to be home all the time. LOL. Have a super Saturday!

The store is worried about we older people bringing germs in and not staying in, so they made you take extra care. They are worried for themselves, too. And on a Saturday, there are more people out shopping. We older folks should shop during the week, less crowds. Have to change our usual routine. Until things get better. Are you the one that insisted on two German Shepard’s, or did Himself pick them out? Lots of extra care with those dogs. Big job . I would not be happy that they were not let out, too. Be careful this time of year.

Because my mom died when I was young, now that I'm so old - I don't remember her - don't know if I sound like her or not. emoticon

My niece did my grocery run for me today and stood in lineups at a couple different stores. I thank God for this caring, thoughtful woman, she keeps me supplied, even bought me a plant for Easter, and a bit of chocolate. (not much, & I promised I wouldn't eat it all in one sitting, lol)

This pandemic is hard on everyone and I think you do really well, Lynda.

I would tell you to just stay home, but your my husband insisted on going shopping, too. Over the last three years he has taken over the shopping chores. Whenever he’d get bored he’d go shopping. I didn’t mind at all. Now, of course, he can’t do that. He went to four stores on Thursday. When we talked about it after he got home, he realized that he could have just gone to one store to buy some frozen vegetables and a bag of apples. I told him we had enough food for at least a month. He laughed. I don’t think he believed me until he checked it out for himself. We’ve got fresh fruit and vegetables that will last a while and then we can fall back on frozen ones. We’ve got plenty of meat and lots of shelf stable pantry items. How about you? It’s difficult to change your shopping habits, isn’t it?

I prefer to shop on a weekday also, thinking it'll be less crowded, but I am the one doing home school with the Kindergarten grandson, so that doesn't work so well. So... I will make the trip today or tomorrow. DH found some construction masks in the garage...they look just like hospital masks, but they aren't hospital quality. I have vinyl gloves and I have a small bag of disinfectant wipes, individually placed inside for wen I need them. OVERWORKEDJANET had said to do these things. Plus, don't bring a purse inside the store. Just have the credit card in your pocket to pull out, sanitize and return. Put groceries and mail in the garage for several days, except put produce in the sink with soapy water and wipe down the frozen stuff. Then I heard (I think someone else) put your clothes right in the washer. So many things to do and so much more important as this virus spreads. How many are carrying it symptom free. So many are not being tested because their risk is lower and/or they aren't needing hospital intervention.

Stay strong and do your best to stay away from the fray!! USA says everyone mask! You'd be right at home here!
