HOW to be SAFE with the COVID-19 virus. Share your ideas!

*public: coming within 10 feet of a person or surface that might be contaminated
** remembering WHY I'm doing this: SO MANY of the vulnerable population (babies, pregnant women, the sick, the elderly) will die because there aren't enough hospital beds or resources if ALL get sick at the same time!

In my home, we've agreed:

1. to engage in social distancing.
A. I've stocked up as best I could on non-perishable essentials (canned, dry, and frozen foods), toilet paper, and laundry detergent to last as long as possible* (*possible being about 2-3 months)
B. we've agreed to not go ANYwhere in public*, as long as possible (*public being anywhere else than our property or inside our cars)
C. we've backed out of our steady social engagements

2. to practice contamination containment so that we do not track germs into the house and can generally behave normally inside, at home -- resulting in much less stress for the small effort.
A. to wear our masks in public (we have a tiny supply which, if worn for a full week for our VERY rare trips out in public, should last us 2 months or more since we AREN'T going out in public if at all possible!)
B. to wear a dedicated pair of shoes and gloves when going "out" in public and LEAVING those items in the garage or our cars. (Since I can easily go AND return from a typical grocery shopping trip in less than 4 hours [COVID virus life-span is very long!] such precaution is needed because germs fall and live on the floor as well as the cans and stair rails we are ALL likely to touch!)
C. to using disinfectant wipes on hands after removing shoes and gloves.
D. to bathing and changing clothes immediately upon returning home IF the trip involved public exposure.

I believe that we each understand that whether or not we fear for our individual selves, our precautions are protecting our immediate family and making home life -- and public life --easier for us all. I certainly feel safer when I see that a person is actively trying to NOT transmit or receive this particular virus. It is actually harder to remember to stop touching your face and hair, and things in the public domain! So, I don't think our precautions are over-reacting. It is going to take awhile before these actions become the new normal for us!
