Just what everyone wants to do their first week of a weight loss challenge. We have a weekend convention to attend. 2.5 days will be spent in the car driving. 1.5 days will be spent in workshops sitting. Yikes!
So road trips of the past went like this - hit the road a couple hours in stop for a fast food breakfast, consume large amounts of soda, candy, salty snacks and drive for hours, stop to use the restroom and maybe grab some more fast food. Nothing healthy on the agenda. No walking, no healthy food.
Well, this time it is going to be different. I have turkey, hard boiled eggs, cheese, fruit, veggies and nuts packed in bags to bring to eat in the car. My goal is to get in a few block walk each time we stop. There is a workout room, but last year's experience was that the equipment was always occupied by someone - so this year bringing my walking shoes and getting outdoors. Lots of places to explore and walk nearby. Planning and choices.
I refuse to let this road trip take me off my path! Sticking a choose you sticker in my purse so when we are eating out - I will be reminded!
On a totally different note. I got on the treadmill for the first time in a long time - I mean got on the treadmill with the intention of walking a mile. The last time I just hopped on and did a couple hundred steps while the laundry was running. Holy Moly. I am out of shape. I set the pace for a 15 minute mile with a slight incline (4). Two minutes in I was breathing hard. Three minutes in I was huffing and puffing. Thought I was going to die! I calmed my mind and told myself one more minute and made it to the 5 minute mark. My heart rate was 148. I stopped for a couple minutes to catch my breath and did it again. this time my heart rate was 154. One more time to finish that mile. Phew! So my new goal is to get to the point where I can complete that mile without stopping for those breathers. However, there will be no more treadmill time this week as I am hitting the road. Will start striving for that goal when I return on Sunday!
Looking forward to some time away - I may not be checking in for the next few days depending on internet access - but I am right here beside you on the path!
