105 pounds lost so far...

Back in July, I fell into a coma. All of my organs shut down, mainly from alcohol intoxication. I was put on a ventilator, a feeding tube, and catheters. I came out of it in 3 weeks and spent another 3 weeks in the ICU. Then I was put onto the regular ward. By the time I left the hospital, I had lost over 60 pounds.

After I was taken off the feeding tube, my appetite never returned to what it was before the coma. I've been in a nursing home since September and I have lost 45 pounds here. I eat between 1000 and 1400 calories a day. I don't eat bread, rice, noodles, sweets, or chips. I don't drink alcohol, juice or soda. I walk the hallways 3 times a day and I ride the recumbent bike 5 times a week. I don't see anything changing in the near future.

I don't see my body any differently than I did at 360 pounds. But I can move a lot more easily, I can cross my legs, I can take care of my hygiene a lot easier, and I can climb stairs. Mainly, though, I don't stand out as a very fat person. I'm still bigger than a lot of women, but I'm no longer the heaviest person in the room.

    I am so proud of the weight you have lost. I am so sorry that you have struggled so much and I would love to hear how you are doing NOW...2 months since this blog. I want to hear MORE than just how your weight is going though...

    Keep up the hard work. The new saying I hear from younger people is "Fake it til you make it!" and you're making it! I work in healthcare and I've seen the therapists work hard with clients and help them to achieve more than they ever imagined they could. It sounds like you're on the right path!
