3 Good Things

Monday, January 13, 2020

Well, I got a random task to write down three good things that happened to me today. My immediate reaction was to shrug and say "impossible", but I figured I would take the time and find three things to be happy about, and it isn't even 5 o'clock. I doubt anyone is going to see or read this, but that is fine as well - I can always go back check it later if I need a boost of optimism.

1-I was motivated to clean up "my" Outlook calendar.

My work's Outlook calendar is not accessible outside of work, which is a huge pain in the rear when wanting to see if I have a busy day of meetings or if my schedule is quiet. I keep a copy of my meeting schedule, my wife's work schedule, and family events in three calendars in Outlook.com so that I can have this information on my phone, tablet, and computer. It had gotten woefully stale, with recurring meetings that had moved to other times. Today I had the energy, time and motivation to fix this all up, so that will save me some time on an ongoing basis.

2-Someone thanked me at work.

Last Friday a client asked how something could be tested in our system. I told them that I could put together a list of test instructions for them on Monday morning. I sent it off by email this AM, and when I passed them in the hallway to a different meeting, they thanked me in person, saying the instructions were very clear.

3-I lost half a pound, despite my best efforts.

This is last night, but going to count it anyway. My weigh ins are Sunday night. I try to not even glance at the scale for the rest of the week, so that the number I write down is at a consistent time, and I don't get concerned about fluctuations. Last week my food choices were...less than ideal. Several poutines, more pop than I am trying to drink, and a whopper of a meal at Burger King. I figured I would be up a pound or so, as I went over cap several days. I guess moving more has helped, as I was down 0.6 instead.

So there we go - 3 things to be OK with. The rest of my day has gone fairly poorly - sick kid, weird noise from the car on the way in, but there are still positive things to look at.

Strange place for my first blog post, but there it is.

Good job making note of positive events. The good can easily get list in the shuffle of a busy life. Congrats on decluttering your email Inbox and calendar--that can be a huge help! And on the compliment and weight loss. All the little things add up.
