War of the honey bees
Friday, January 10, 2020
Went to the farmers market yesterday and bought local honey, fruits and vegetables.
The huge almond farms in California require a lot of help from beekeepers across the US. The beekeepers supply the millions of honey bees to pollinate the almond trees. This is not a bio-diverse area for the bees. There are pesticides and mites that come from other hives that kill millions of bees every year. Also disease from the different hives spread back to the other states when the hives return killing the bees that didn't travel to California.
I don't know what the answer is but this was just for informing you what happens each year. We need bees to grow crops of fruits and vegetables across our country and a stable honey bee supply of pollinators is vital to a constant food supply. The beekeepers make more money by contracting with the almond growers than they do selling raw honey.
Please support your local beekeepers by buy local honey, fruits and vegetables.
