Attention Dog Lovers (need opinions)

Wednesday, December 11, 2019

I was in a cab yesterday with my puppy in a carrier going to the vet for her shots. She started softly whinning because she was nervous and probably afraid... the cab driver kept shushing her in a mean, and abrupt voice. Both on the way there and on the way back. What should I have done??? If anything... I'm thinking about making a complaint to the cab owner.

I would have said or done something to shush the cab driver, or maybe told him that my dog only listens to me. But, knowing what I do about the cabs where you live, I might be cautious about reporting.

In small towns like this, cabs are the only option if you don't drive or don't own your own car. (other than relying on friends or relatives with cars) Reporting any driver could put you in a position of hardship in getting the next cab-ride. Right or wrong, it's just how it is in a lot of small towns: the cab drivers will make you last on the list to pick up; they won't get you where you're headed in a timely manner; or they will "forget" to pick you up - until you've called them back several times. They will eventually pick you up because it means money for them - but they can & do make your ride miserable if they have 'a problem' with you.

That said, I think the driver was very wrong to be so mean! If it happens again, maybe try to ask a few questions - why he/she is trying to discipline your dog? does he/she not like dogs? could he/she suggest something that might help your dog not whine so much in the cab? Find a way to keep them talking (answering questions) until you get to your destination. Dogs can often sense negative feelings and that may be what was upsetting her.

I hope your next cab-ride is better. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I agree w/EMBERBER -- I would have reported that driver. Don't think I would have interacted in any with with the driver, though, as you just don't know anymore in this day and age who might be violent.

HUGS and your puppy looks totally sweet.

emoticon I would report them. they are paid to do a job that has nothing to do with disciplining your dog.
