My Adventures in Spark Land...Day 107 of Doing the New: Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse

"Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional". ~Walt Disney

Happy 101 birthday Mickey Mouse!

A year ago Disney did a huge special to celebrate Mickey's 100 birthday. As the theme song played, I remembered being a kid in my grandparent's living room sitting and watching the Wonderful World of Disney sitting in this red chair with my parent's and grandparent's. For some reason I lost that joy I once felt. A few months ago I had a flash back of asking my mom to go to a Disney Park like my Dad's mom, sister, and brother did for a vacation. Mom's replay was to tell me that I disliked carnival rides and all Disney Parks are is carnival rides and they were not going to take me to someone I would hate. My replied back was, 'then I hate Disney.'

I learned as an adult that Mom had a habit of speaking without thinking and doing things without thinking it through. She told me a lot of things she told me she either didn't remember saying or regretted saying. She didn't realize the impact her words and actions would make on my life. My guess is that statement was one of those statement she later regretted because she didn't realized the effect that would make on my life.

As I started to reflect on my life. I am grateful for my friends in Lacrosse that brought back my childhood love for Disney. It took friends dragging me to watch 'Beauty and the Beast'. And a cute little kid wanting me to watch 'Toy Story' and 'Land before Time' movies etc with him. Then I became a parent and my kid rather being outdoors playing then watching anything so my love was last again.

As Mickey's birthday approached, I wondered what I could do to start bringing back my love for Disney again. I got myself my 1st Mickey Mouse!!! It is sitting on the little red chair that I sat as a kid at my grandparent's watching the Wonderful World of Disney as a child!

Yes that is my day 107 new. I did watch a little bit of 'Steamboat Willie' also!

Onward to day 108 of doing the new!

What nice childhood memories! I remember watching the Wonderful World of Disney in COLOR on our neighbor's color TV for the first time! We would go over there every Sunday night for dinner, and then watch Disney, and Bonanza! Great times! I have been to Disney World twice. It is more than just rides, however, it is an expensive vacation.

Walt Disney's boyhood home is about 65 miles straight north of here. It's been made into a museum and I hear the entry fee is quite expensive and not worth the money. That's probably why we haven't been. We are tourists first and foremost and no doubt the reason why we all enjoyed the 25 years DH was in the Navy.
    And...as usual...I digress.

I'm so happy for you that the new Mickey and the red chair bring back good memories for you. That's a wonderful blessing. Enjoy the evening with your new friend.
