Desert Sunday

Sunday, November 17, 2019

I am so pleased we were able to make a desert walk yesterday. It was terribly hot when we set out because we had a lingering breakfast with friends. I have noticed a change in my food choices - I was super frugal having a hard cooked egg, spinach , and juice, my appetite is changed. Lately all I want is a snack sized meal. It could be the heat. After our walk we picked up a few things at the supermarket nearby. It is kind of high end so we watch for specials. A fellow at a sushi station offered to make any roll and he had brown rice- so salmon and avocado Cali rolls. And that was my supper while my husband socked back a vegetable beef potage, way too heavy for me. Then it was Netflix and Laundry. The walk to Thousand Palms Oasis was challenging because the ponds are being drained. Arsenic has concentrated in the water and years back Boy Scouts stocked the palm fringed oasis ponds with Crayfish. Not native , and they burrow...the draining and restoration of Pupfish will be complete in June of 2020. So no shade, a mercifully no rattlesnakes or wildcats...two small lizards and a broiling sun. On the way back, we both sped up. That was a surprise to me. It is hot again today but I think I can manage another desert amble. The scene never fails - open blue sky, distant mountains, and the rangers who have so much information. I am not ready for a slot canyon or ladders quite yet. Something to look forward to. My knee is better each day.
