Challenge Day 48

Saturday, November 09, 2019

I'm glad when I got up at 5am I didn't realize it was raining. So I got dressed and ready for our group run. When I opened the garage door I did see the rain and grabbed a jacket, but I had momentum and just went on. By the time I got to the meeting place it was downpouring. There were just 8 of us today; we often have 50. The Red Ribbon 15K race in our town was today at 6:30am and many of our runners were there, so between the competing race and the weather we were a small group today. We paired up in approximate pace groups and waited for the rain to lessen. I ran with one fellow who preferred run :15/walk :30 for a 14+ minute mile. And even though I would have preferred a little faster, it wasn't bad especially since we had to watch out for fallen debris, puddles, slippery leaves and sidewalk cracks. He showed that we had 5 miles in, but I didn't start my watch timely.

When I got home I did the challenge dog walk. Casey was good the whole walk today; no leash biting and no lunging for dogs or squirrels or anything; no need for prong collar. We went through his tricks and all went well except "down". I guess he's forgotten it. Will try again later.

Confirmed my ride to St Pete on Friday. Looking forward to our group's destination race a week from today. There were 41 people going the last I heard a definite number and I hear another couple have signed up, too. They are planning a group meal Friday eve. Going to be fun. Right now I am feeling healthy and trained and ready for a good 10K run!! Now to eat smart all week. Get packed and don't forget any essentials, such as running shoes.

Tonight we are seeing "Kitchen Witches" at Lakeland Community Theater and going with friends. Looking forward to it.

What are you looking forward to?

We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort. You have it all.

My dogs love treats. Fruitables and Merrick make a 3 calorie small treats that they love. I use the treats daily to teach and reinforce come, sit, shake, down, spin, etc. They are always willing and they are helpful when we are out walking. We keep some in a pouch on the leash for those unexpected moments when behavior correction is needed.

Every time I read of someone running in rain or snow, MOBYCARP's words echo in my head: "There is no inappropriate weather for running. Only inappropriate attire." Sound like you had appropriate attire! emoticon emoticon Extra pats for Casey!

"It takes real commitment to walk in rain or snow" I was told that by an aquaintenance because that's what I do. You're the same. The only thing that stops me is extreme cold or ice.

I'm smiling here thinking of you running in the rain. It can be enjoyable, when it's not terribly cold and the wind isn't driving it. And, appropriate gear goes a long way, doesn't it?

Great start to what appears to be another rich and rewarding day in the making. Enjoy the Kitchen Witches!

Your upcoming race sounds like loads of fun!!!
