Good News!!!

Saturday, November 02, 2019

I got my 2nd promotion, and tenure!!! :'D I'm set for life now!!! God is good!! To reward myself, I'm going to watch "UglyDolls" today (I love musicals!).

That said, this week, I was eating (soft food, mind you), and one of my (dental) crowns broke! :( It's a porcelain fused to metal crown on my lower right 1st molar, and the porcelain on the outside keeps chipping off! I saw my dentist yesterday, and he smoothed out the porcelain (he didn't have time to pop the crown off), so at least the crown isn't poking my tongue and cheek anymore. I made the soonest appointment to replace it (mid next month). He's going to give me some sort of all ceramic crown, as they supposedly last longer than porcelain fused to metal crowns. The receptionist said that it will cost a little over $800, but that my insurance will pay half of it, so I will owe $400, and I said okay. It's so nice to have reached a point in my life where I can afford small emergencies like this. :'D All this year, I was planning to downgrade my dental insurance, so I can have more net pay, because (up until this point) the only dental work I've needed so far was a filling (quite large, though). But now that one of my crowns failed (major work), I'm paranoid that my other (extensive) dental work will need to be replaced soon, too. Open Season (the time period during which federal employees can change their various insurances) starts in about a week, and I think maybe God is warning me to keep my current (expensive) dental insurance, because the coverage is excellent. Thoughts?

I can't believe this month is Thanksgiving, and Black Friday! My surgery is on Black Friday, so I'm going to go Christmas shopping on Thanksgiving after lunch instead of on actual Black Friday. I already saw whole turkeys at Target yesterday! I also enjoyed looking at some Christmas merchandise out already yesterday at Target (I love Target!).

I think I'm going to try Apple Music, since the 1st 3 months are free. I usually just buy songs outright via iTunes, but my coworker suggested that I subscribe to a streaming service for music, so I think I'll give it a try soon.

When I went to Las Vegas with my best friend, she blew up at me a few times during our trip, which I didn't like. She has a bad temper! :( So, I don't know if I want to live with her after all. She told me that she's not going to buy a house until next year, anyway, so I have time to think about it.

I would keep your expensive dental insurance. Better safe than sorry. My mother has had all kinds of dental emergencies that drag on for months without adequate insurance, and I of course have had uncrowned roots for over 12 years. My teeth are very hard but I get the lecture about "someday" my teeth will break because they are uncapped. I always say to them, "Look I don't have either the insurance or finances to do that right now, and you ought to know that from my last session." I am so far lucky that nothing has broken. BUT I don't eat anything hard, sticky, or crunchy as a precaution--and I miss popcorn!

That's fantastic news about your promotion. Congratulations.

As for the dental insurance, better opt for the better coverage. Believe me, as one who has had many dental issues since my 40's (20+ yrs. ago) it is good to be covered, as nothing dental is ever cheap!

Wow, you do have some good news...the 2nd promotion and tenure is fantastic! Very happy for you. It is great that you have dental insurance and only have to pay half of the fee for the ceramic crown. Yes, do really think you should think hard about whether you want to move in with your friend. I don't think you are one to argue. Moving in with someone that does argue will be tough on you. emoticon
