After two weeks we are heading home and right now at the airport in Prague waiting for flight to Frankfurt and then on to JFK. And what a two weeks it has been!!!
This has been a real challenge to keep the food at a healthy amount especially on the ship. One thing I did was to keep breakfasts as close to what I'd eat at home. Did ask about cereal one morning (some dark flakes that I hoped was bran)....only to find out it was chocolate cereal! Glad I asked. For the most part lunches were a salad and soup and maybe a small sandwich.
Dinners however were a whole different matter. While we had four courses each was on the small side and I'd start with a salad and eat only part of the soup. Often left part of the entree. Maybe dessert if it was really good.
But the wine. The waiters on the ship just kept pouring and we all laughingly said we only had one glass....
The fitness center was a real bust however the weather on the ship was amazing. Each morning before breakfast I'd take a 10 - 15 minute walk on the deck and depending on when the tour started would walk again. Most of our tours were walking tours. the afternoons when we were sailing there were plenty of us up on the deck walking around. Walking in the sun sailing on the Danube? Priceless!
Even the last day on the ship when it was raining (our only rainy day) I ended up riding the bike and then when we had time before we disembarked I just walked around the ship. Then took a walking tour of Passau, Germany and visited Melk Abbey where we walked.
So far I've gotten at least 10,000 steps every day keeping my streak alive!
There was a scale, but seriously? I brought a pair of jeans that fit just right and wore those to test how I was doing. They fit just fine yesterday. I'm sure I put on some vacation weight and that'll come off easily when I get home to regular eating and back to the gym.
This trip took me out of my comfort zone and glad it did. Not having as much control of food ended up being fine. Tasted a lot of things I'd never eat, but when in the Balkans you at least try it. The beer here is amazing and nothing like what we get in the states.
Now I can't wait for my next trip!
